  • I just want to commend Zach Brown for his full-out superman dive for a ball he had a 0.03% chance of saving from out of bounds when we were up by 25 with about 3 minutes left.

Play like that, and I'll keep showing up every night even if we've lost 43 in a row.

    • Last night was the second game in a row that I had a crotchety old man in front of me turn and give me a "shoosh" or "lower the volume" sign (different guy, different sections). I wasn't cussing, wasn't berating, was just yelling (loudly) encouragement to our guys. I do not understand why these crotchety old men buy tickets and come to the games if they want it to be quiet. FVV, 3.3G, and Lynn have all stated very clearly that they love the noise, and Lynn has said her biggest pet peeve is the people at the games sitting with their hands in their pockets and their mouths closed. I told the guy last night that he could adjust the volume on his TV at home anytime he wanted, but he wouldn't be adjusting mine. Then it got even louder. Poor guy that tried to shoosh me the first time is going to hate senior day/night.

NO doubt. How about Fred diving face first trying to get a steal, not only inviting a lot of contact, but initiating the contact...hard, getting the steal and leading to a basket. Flipping great play I'll pay to see anytime, anywhere.

Did anyone watching on TV catch 3G REALLY giving it up to Connor after he drove to the bucket and drew a foul. He had a WIDE smile and was clapping away at him. You can tell Gregg likes him. He just needs to let it go a bit more.

            • Conner is clearly deferring to Fred and Ron and trying to be a team player. He won't be what he was in high school simply because of the size and athleticism he is now facing. However, he is and will be a very serviceable player for the Shocks. Just his presence on the floor opens things up a bit because it seems to me like the other teams are very focused on keeping track of him on the perimeter.

IMO his biggest obstacle is his lack of size and strength. He will get stronger as he matures but we will usually be at a disadvantage in that regard. But their is really nothing he can do about that. He has gotten more aggressive going for rebounds in recent games. I would be surprise if he becomes a big driver of the basketball.

He's the same height as Fred ... with similar handles and a better leaping ability. He just has to learn the body control that Fred has and how to prevent getting blocked.

                • I certainly wasn't expecting a 30-point win when the score sat at 18-all with about 8:30 remaining in the 1st half. Ron, Anton and Conner put together a nice offensive spurt and the zone defense was very effective.

I wonder if we might see the Shocks use that zone a little more liberally going forward. If nothing else it gives other teams something else to deal with and a different look than they are used to.

He is about 20 lbs of muscle shy of Fred and I don't expect Conner will catch up. Simply different body types and genetics at work. I don't really want Conner trying to be Fred. I want Conner to figure out what he can do best at this level and then be the best version of Conner that he can be.

Shaq made a move with his right arm to throw the guy off of him & it resulted in the Ref's going to the replay to determine if it was a flagrant foul by Shaq. I guess that is a good example of a player who is retaliating getting caught instead of the instigator.
Yes. Shaq lost his cool. Big man v. smaller man. Contact initiated by smaller man. Who do I choose? Well, the one I saw - the big man.

I think he will be able to drive. He defers too much and he gets missed by teammates too much, but all of the above looked better last night.I am really excited about what is to come for him.

I think he will drive some, but I think he will be selective and pick his spots. I don't expect him to be close to the volume driver that Fred has been. Not sure I want him to be. We have a couple guys coming in that sound like they could be slashers (Daishon Smith and C.J. Keyser). I think I may prefer Conner being on the receiving end of kick outs for open treys.

                          • I'm not sure what demons took over the team in the 2nd half of Ill St or the UNI game, but last night was the team I thought they'd be. I think those games were little bumps in the road, this team is ready to make their push.
