  • How Different Are These 2 Resumes?

    Team A Team B
    Record 27-5 27-6
    SOS 81 105
    RPI 12 25
    KenPom 9 10
    vs 1-25 0-0 0-1
    vs 26-50 2-3 1-3
    vs 51-100 9-1 4-1
    vs 101-150 8-1 10-1
    vs 151+ 8-0 12-0

Clearly, resume A appears to be stronger than resume B. Simple question. How many seed lines of difference would you expect between these two? 1? 2? 3? More?

Looks like a seed line difference of no more than 2 to me.

I would also put Team A two seed lines higher. More proven with 11 wins over quality competition versus 5 for Team B. Losses are a wash.

Caveat: This comparison is in a vacuum, and would ultimately depend on how many teams have resumes that would fit between them.

I would say no more than 2 seed lines depending who else is in the same range. I could see going as low as one seed line in a lot of cases and possibly even down to the same seed line in a VERY rare case where no one else was in the same ballpark. (Or one seed was moved in order to accommodate P5 travel plan).

I'll guess 3. While RPI is not the holy grail, from that metric alone there are 12 teams with RPIs in between these two. That is potentially 4 seed lines different (12 being the lowest 3 and 25 the highest 7). It's more likely that team A would drop to 4 (not a 2) while team B could move up to a 6 (not an 8), so 2 or 4 seed lines more likely than 1 seed line. OK JH4P, tear me apart. :)

            Exactly keleven spots.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I'd have to see them in a team photo to judge which team was taller and more athletic...

If team B looked more athletic and bigger, they would be 2 seed lines ahead of A.

There is significant difference between RPIs, but their Kenpom is virtually the same. For that reason I would minimize the effect RPI would have on seeding and only separate these two teams by one seed line. Of course, as others have pointed out, this scenario doesn't include any other teams. If there would be no other teams similar to these two, I would consider giving them the same seed.

And don't forget, if Team A is from the MVC, they are still on the bubble and MUST win their tournament to get in.

Also per DG: "And if A's team name starts with Wichita, they don't get in."

Did one team have a key player injured during several of the losses? Did they have a key reserve become eligible at semester? I'm factoring that in.

So, any guesses who these teams are? I see @MadaboutWu is hinting about his thoughts on one of them.

Is B. Murray state? Or Colorado state, that's all I can brainstorm on this fine Friday.

                            Nice guess, but nope.

I would guess that B is Wichita State if it wins out and wins Arch Madness...but WSU will only have 26 countable wins if that scenario plays out.
