Unless we make a major run in the NCAA's be ready for Fred and Ron to get shut out on 1st and 2nd team All American honors as well. They just don't have the stats to stack up with some of those other guys, team success comes first.

This is whacked. I just saw a few comments on the Saluki board that Ron hasn't been an all MVC player this year. They see him as a 2nd Teamer. I watched Ron up close for 4 years now and he does everything well. Ron is a Top 10 Shooting Guard and these people are crazy.

Ron is a fine player and Wichita is lucky to have him. Unfortunately, stats talk and fan-love walks regarding awards like this. If Ron and Fred are to receive any real All-American hype, this team has to push past the Sweet 16 and maybe into the Final Four...just a perception issue.

Just mo but Ron has done enough in the past four years during our NCAA runs, and during the Pan Am games that he should not have a "perception issue".

The "perception" people are the ones that don't watch the Shocks play. If they'd watch, they'd know that we have one of the best point guards and one of the best shooting guards in the country as far as all around players are concerned. If all they're doing is looking at stat lines, then they are exactly that, "perception" people. And if that's what they base their votes on, then they and their awards are overrated, kind of like many of the guys on their list.

What doesn't often get counted is that IF Ron wanted 20 a game, he could get it, but that's not within the framework of what he or this teams about. Screw the awards and go get 2 nets.

I think this is where our Depth HURTS our stars. They aren't averaging eye-popping numbers, because they don't have to. They are averaging good, not great numbers while winning every game by 20+ points and playing less than 30 minutes (Fred at least).

^This. It may end up hurting MM for MVC ROTY as well. But as others have posted, individual awards are not what Shocker basketball is these days and I, for one, am thrilled and grateful for that.

I feel like it is more our job as Shocker fans to defend FVV and Ron Baker instead of justifying their critics, but that is just me.

I'd love to see Ron and Fred in a one on one contest with any of these guys, I think they would more than hold there own. All round game, defense, ball handling, ability to create their own shot, Fred and Ron can do it all. Tons shooting % is down a little but sometimes I think it can be attributed to the type of defense he plays, and battling on the boards, blocking shots ect. Same for Fred, slap in the face but I see it as motivation for the rest of the season.
