  • I wonder what the mileage limit is on the lease and if he'll have to pay the overage?

I would assume the lease is the lowest mileage cap (10K/yr I believe) on a loss-leader/rental car type of Mustang (V6 Auto).

It is still a free car to drive around for a couple of years though.

No games, nicer facility, and drastically more professional sales staff as well.
I will not ask you to disclose the dealership that you were unimpressed with, but can you tell me which one you had the good experience with? I'll be looking over the next year or so.

        • I was on the main basketball forum homepage and noticed there were new posts in this thread. I thought to myself, "what could there possibly be about the Bradley game that is still worth talking about?"

Never would have guessed it was the scummy Wichita car dealerships.

Sounds like Putty on Seinfeld. Admin fee, undercoating, finders fee. Finders fee? It was on the lot! Yeah, that's right.

And yet, I learned more in here than I have in any of the other threads today.

              I do love the interwebz.

                • I bought a car last May. I searched on the internet. I sent emails out to a number of dealers asking for color, options and price. One of the replies was from Tomball Ford (near my work).

I qualified for a substantial discount (purchase at invoice) because I work for a large company who provides negotiated consumer discounts as a benefit for their employees. I confirmed that they would sell me the car at invoice.

I went to the dealership. They immediately asked for me to prove I wasn't a provisional (temp) employee. They said that they had had some provisional employees attempt to get discounts. I showed them my badge. Next, they started playing the 'dealer prep game'. I asked for a car for X. They said, 'we can give you the car for X.' I said let me see your bottom line out-the-door price.

The bottom line was always X+Y. First it was hidden in dealer fees, then it was hidden in financing fees, then it was hidden in 'dealer prep'.

I warned the sales manager I would walk if he didn't quit wasting my time. He didn't listen. I walked. On my way out the door, I got a call from the dealer (Auto Nation Katy) where I bought the car. I saved about $4000.

When I reviewed the dealership on Yelp, my comment was that it was "An old school car dealership, and that's not a compliment."

Sounds like some of the dealerships in Wichita.

                  • Having worked at eddys Toyota for about a month I know they screw people left and right which is why I left. Laughing about jacking the price up several thousand on cars and selling them to people in meeting isn't right or proper business!

                    • I sold cars for a short time one winter when there was no work for me at Santa Fe Railroad. We watched a training film and were told to always hit customers at the highest gross possible. I felt bad sometimes because some of the buyers were poor and unsophisticated and I knew I was taking advantage of them.

The dealership was a Lincoln Mercury dealership that used to be on East Kellogg (near Oliver). Shockernut2305, you're right. They used to laugh when they screwed people. (Look at that! I sold a car for $3600 with an $1800 commission! Wow!!!)

Note that this was around 40 years ago.

This is the dealership I won't be returning to.
