    Regarding 3 pt %...

For the entire season, WSU is #180 at 34.4%

Remove the Orlando games where WSU was 20 for 71 (only 28%) and they are 35.5% for all the other games. That % would put them at #135.

In MVC play only, WSU is shooting 36.5%, good for #88 in the country.

I think WSU is clearly a good, but nowhere near great, 3 pt shooting team.

Agreed. That is my feeling as well. And 'good' in several offensive categories is enough for an "elite" defensive team to do some serious damage. Especially if they have even just 1 offensive game on the above side of mean in the tournament.

Our field goal shooting percentage would improve greatly if we simply did not dribble, or hesitate, or think, but just go up and ram the damn wide open shots into the basket.

And Fred would have about 3 more assists a game!

The other night, I thought FVV could have had even more than 11 assists but some wide open shots were missed. On any given game, if the Shocks get smoking hot, could FVV beat or match Joe Griffin's single game record of 16? I'd love to see that because he has been an ideal team focused point guard for us. This could most likely happen at a home game. How about Senior night against them Redbirds?
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

From the horse's mouth....but yeah Orlando might make things different.

Well my friend...we may have just the right numbers lining up in our favor for this to come to frutation.

Let's see...Fred's 11 assist the other night plus Joe's record assist of 16 equals 27 when added together. The number 27 doesn't get me all excited until I realize Fred's final home game will be played on Feb 27th. As in 2/27. Add 2+2+7 and what friendly number do we get. Yep...11

So Feb 27th may wind up being the night we see Fred Van Vleet break Joe Griffin's single game assist record on Senior Night. And yes... SENIOR NIGHT is 11 letters!!!

                GO SHOCKS!!!

Senior Night will be special indeed. We will have 5 Shocks that will be honored and we are proud of each of them. What sets a Gregg Marshall team apart from so many other teams as a positive note is our quality depth. We have 2 special All American Guards that lead the way. Wessel plays with lots of heart and hustle and has the floor burns to prove it. Grady has a dream that is part of our Shocker dream and we are so glad he could finish this Season with us after his injury. Wamukota can do his rim protecting, block shots, and rebound. Will #11 return this Season? Dunno, but Cle and Shamet have made #11 on SN just all that much more noticeable.

                    Except 16 assists would only tie the record. He would need 17 assists. 11 + 17 = 28. To make the numbers work, he really needs to get 18 assists. 11 + 18 = 29, then 2 + 9 = 11.

Next Season we will have 2 Seniors we hope. Both walk-ons. Not sure we have ever seen that before either.

Hard to gauge that because our Soph. Class of this Season should be strong next Season as Juniors. Brown, Shaq, Kelly, Nurger, Frankamp, with Willis and Smith incoming from the Juco Ranks.

The Shocks were hit hard by graduation the Season we were picked 4th in this here Valley and then landed in the Final 4. Last Season, Duke was loaded with Freshmen and they were really good. They won a National Championship and some of these young stars opted for the Bigs. We seem to thrive when we have solid long term upperclassmen that can compete with the one and done players.

Right now, My focus is on the Shocks peaking more and more and then playing our very best in March and April at the Dance this Season. Once we get there, the bracket and match ups will be a factor. Right now though, we want to bag up and defeat some Redbirds twice, Bulldawgs, Aggies, the Lew, etc. etc. etc.

i was just making a little joke, a little play about how some people say that once fvv and rb are gone, it's over. we know better.

i wouldn't call last year a rebuilding year, but losing cle was tough. somehow, the shockers still found themselves back in the sweet 16 and 30-5 overall. those folks really shouldn't doubt coach marshall, not even a hint of doubt, not even after fvv and rb graduate.
