How bad is it down there? Couldn't hop on a bus Saturday or Sunday?

They were calling for 6" to 15" of snow on Saturday/Sunday across a big portion of the TX panhandle and nearby areas, so I think they may have legitimately been kept from trying this.

Safety first. I had no problems on the main roads (Woodlawn and 13th Street this morning) but traffic was very light and I only had to drive 1.5 miles. The side roads I was on and the parking lot at my office were pretty much ice rinks. This would only be made more difficult driving in after dark IMHO. Not sure a attending a college basketball game (assuming their will be a game) justifies the risk of driving in from outside the immediate metro area.

I've been down there. It is a good hour bus ride from Las Cruces to El Paso Airport even in nice weather.

I want to get this contest in since NMSU is a great buy game (hopeful conference champ/tournament team, RPI will almost assuredly finish on the good side of 200), but ugh you have to feel for them if they do in fact make it here in time for the tip.

We've been in the same position two or three times over the last decade. Arriving hours before tip and unloading/getting checked in/changing/shuttling back and forth in freezing temps and then going straight to the arena for pregame warmups sucks bigtime.

Looking at the schedule the best makeup game time would be 29 Feb before MVC tourney. NMSU plays @UMKC the 27th and we are home against ISU Red

Maybe the game can be moved to tomorrow if they can't make it tonight. I see they have a game back in Las Cruces against Arizona Christian on Wednesday. They could always cancel that one if they need a couple of days to get here.

Thinking in some other state of mind - that would be a terrible time to drop a game, if we drop 2 or 3 Valley games like I think, and we're 22-7 or 21-8, then a loss to a noncon opponent that late in the year would stick in the committee's mind, and might cost us an at-large.

The Shocker women have a home game scheduled Tuesday night against Oklahoma Christian (a 4-7 D-II team coming in from Edmond). That game would have to be moved up, postponed or cancelled. I would think getting the men's game vs NMSU in would be a much higher priority then the Shocker women playing essentially an exhibition game in front of 200 people.

However, the Shocker men do have Drake coming up Thursday at 1:00p so not sure how willing 3G would be to play the NMSU game tomorrow night. BTW, I realize it is New Year's Eve but I don't understand the 1:00p tip off for the Drake game on Thursday.

Even if class was in session it would still be sketchy. Sidewalks and lots always snow packed no matter what.

There will probably be more people at home to watch the game on TV that afternoon than in the evening. Just a guess. My employer is letting us out at noon.

It would be better if they were some snow. At this point if it is anything like the walks and parking lot at my office it will be covered by a layer of ice if not treated. Have to be believe they will at least have treated quite a bit of the lots and walks around the arena.
