It's so simple......If it helps the power schools then it works fine....if it helps the other schools then it is flawed. You have to give it the "eye test".

We are gaining momentum and approaching the time when there will be a Basketball SubDivision (or whatever the hell they call it) where it will be only the big boys playing for the NCAA and the rest of us will sit around and play in a tournament that nobody is going to care about or watch. It will be less important than the NIT. That day IS coming folks.........

No, no, no. I have no problem with what computers do. A monkey can calculate the RPI. It is overly simplistic. If you want a truly objective measurement of team strength, look at Pomeroy or Sagarin. They are much more comprehensive measurements.

In theory, a team could go winless, lose every game by 50, and still be #1 in the RPI by a wide margin. That's a jacked up formula.

Wait a minute ... If you take away all the lower-tier D-1 teams, then who the hell is KU going to schedule?

Doc, again I have to agree, so we have a choice to make. Either we get into a power conference, or form one out of top non-BCS schools to good to ignore. I think those are our only two choices that I can think of.

The other choice is to do nothing and Become 1AA- Basketball schools like Football some time in the future.

I hope it's not my own hope but I think you may be right. The time might be to create a new basketball conference as there is room for a couple more when they go to the Basketball SubDivision.

What 12 or 16 teams would you want?

        WSU - CU - Memphis - Gonzaga - New Mexico (tough) - Tulsa - UAB - BU - Xavier - Temple - St Joe's - Dayton - St Louis - UMass - ?- ? I'm reaching.........

Well you aren't going to get Louisville out of the Big East and as much as I like the George Mason - Winthrop stories, they don't have the money or the support or demographics to add anything to mix.

            • I'll go back to what I suggested 6 pages ago... lets keep the BCS and the top 6 non-BCS in division 1 and everyone else goes to division 1AA or some lower division. That way it would parallel football where you have the 6 BCS and a few other non-BCS. But even the non-BCS always get multiple teams to post season in football. The other advantage is that the BCS couldn't schedule bunches of non-D1 teams. They'd actually have to play us since all the big boys would get their feelings hurt if they had too many losing records, and of course we couldn't have that. I think it would really level the playing field for all the schools that have demonstrated a commitment to basketball, but don't get the opportunity of being in a BCS conference.

                • The paper today stated that the Big East got eight (that's 8) teams in. If true, the MVC got hosed.

                  • While we're tossing out ideas, instead of going through the excruciating process that leaves us feeling like we got screwed every year, why not simply allocate the number of bids.... BCS gets 40 bids, top 6 mid major conferences get 18 bids, all the rest get 6 bids.

Next let the 3 groupings determine how to allocate their bids themselves. Imagine... let the 6 mids have a pre-big dance tourney to determine the 18... do that instead of bracket busters. I could see lots of possibilities here.

And 6 would be about right for the low majors. In any year, you would be hard pressed to find even 6 that could possibly win a game, let alone the 12 that are reserved for them now.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

                            • I don't know if it is a conspiracy, but there is definitely something fishy about Butler getting a 7 seed. 29-3 record, 17 rpi, ranked #11 and #10 in the two polls, lost three games all year by combined 12 points, won horizon reg season and tournament, coming off a sweet 16 appearance last year, and starting 5 seniors. That is not a resume for a 7 seed, no way.

I hope Tennessee has fun with them in the second round!

Well i guess we can wait until the tourney starts to find out if they really did get 8 teams in.
