  • I would have said let Fred play if he thinks he's ready... But, I bet that's what happened in Tulsa. :\

There are just too many stories about a too early comeback and re-injury. If he re-injures it, then the Shocks will be duck soap in conference play.

I don't think Tyrone is going to morph into Magic Johnson in the next few weeks, but I could be wrong.
Well there is Conner also ... who is out there cattle proding his professors to get his grades posted before Saturday.

I'll admit I'm probably paranoid with everything that's gone wrong to this point but I feel we're better served exercising extreme\paranoid caution. If we drop the next 2-3 games there's still something to play for if Fred can get healthy come conference time. If he ends up reagrevating the hammy then all hope is lost.
Fully agree. It simply is not worth the risk if Fred is not 100% recovered. It is most of all not worth the risk that if Fred is not fully recovered, he could reinjure himself even worse.

Can't really argue with that although it seems to me that Fred's absence is probably holding back the development of the team. Fred is this team's security blanket and when he is unavailable it seems to have the result of sphincters closing up and brains cramping.

That said there is absolutely no reason to bring Fred back too soon and these other guys need to loosen up and play basketball. Hard for me to believe they are not significantly better than they have been playing. How you go about getting them to play loose and more to their potential is above my pay grade but I hope 3G and his staff can find the solution.

            • I do remember coach saying on one of the coach's shows (after the Tulsa game) that he would listen to the trainers this time. He's not gonna let him go unless the trainers say he's good to go. So I hope he sticks to that.

I also hope Fred's been taking the golf cart to classes to further reduce risk :chuncky:

              • Fred needs to sit. St. Louis is not worth it. UNLV would be nice but if you sat him up to the Utah game with CF coming on board, that's best case scenario for me. Of course, FVV coming back will help, but missing Grady is still a huge obstacle for this team to overcome. Who's going to fill Grady's role, Shaq? Pffftttt!

I think we saw a glimpse of 'their potential' during the second half of the Iowa game; Iowa's sphincter's were tightening and the youngin's were gaining confidence... they were showing signs of "play angry".

Golf cart? I expect the rest of the team minus Baker to be carrying him around on a throne Roman style, since its pretty obvious he's been carrying them the last few years.

They talked about 2 examples, last year and #1 seed season. They thought WSU was under-seeded last year and when the committee grudgingly gave them the 1 seed, they stacked the bracket against them. They think that the committee doesn't really respect the body of work in the MVC and if WSU doesn't come out with any quality wins during non-conference then WSU will have to win the auto-bid in STL.

I agree that they should be carrying him if that's what's needed, but as far as him "carrying them the last few years," none of these guys have been here the last few years other than Ron and the walkons. That's part of the problem. Which brings me to another point, start JRS at the point and let Ron play the 2. That way you only lose your first string point guard instead of your starting pg AND your starting shooting guard.

                        • Even when Fred does return it will take him a while to return to game shape that will allow him to go 30 to 35 minutes. It will be interesting to see how they approach that but I would expect it to take him several games to work up to his "normal" work load.

                            • As for all the quality wins, rpi, good losses, SOS crap, all they can do is go win games. Win as many as they can. Win St. Louis. Don't give the committee an option.

                              • I agree that it will take Fred some time to shake the rust off and get back in game shape, but I'll take an optimist over a pessimist every day!!
