Did you read my post? I said that he didn't play great offense but he did play great defense and got a lot of loose balls. His help defense and his block outs on rebounds don't show up in the box score but they are a part of his game. He will continue to play a big role on this team. Whether someone else takes some of his minutes, the coach will decide but he deserves minutes.

We can afford to start Evan when we have 4 other scorers on the floor (last year). When we only have Ron, Grady?, and other question marks, we can't afford to have a proven non-scoring threat taking a starting spot. I'm going with Ron, Brown, mcduff, kelly and grady as my starters.

The second guard is where we are weak right now. Brown was not good today. He made some turnovers and didn't help run the team as a guard. Hopefully, he improves, but we may not improve until Frankamp is eligible or Fred is well.

Outside of Shaq, he's the biggest headcase on the team right now.

You've been on him for his defense and I didn't watch the game enough last time to know but today, I watched the first half twice so far and Wessel has been great on defense. He played great help defense helping others and one time JRS lost his man on the inbounds play and Wessel tried to close on his three but it was not his man even though it looked like it. He was after lots of loose balls.
Yes I did watch the game. Yes, he's good on help defense. His trouble is defending his own guy. He can't keep up. I love the way he plays and the heart he shows. He just doesn't have the speed to play the 3. He can't get to the 3 point line fast enough on close outs, and when he is there, he usually gets driven by. I know he wasn't the only one with these issues today, but yes, he has had these issues anytime we played teams with any athleticism at the 3.

We will just have to disagree. I watched the game twice and Evan played excellent on the ball defense. He did have to fight around pics but was still quite successful when help defense helped him out like they are supposed to.

I thought EW played one of his better games on the defensive end. He actually forces a couple guys to put it on the floor and was then able to force a tough shot. Unfortunately he got help on one and the help defender fouled when 11 was about to throw up a desperation shot.

he looked pretty slow and late when USC was executing their screens on the offenisve end. He is currently a liability on offense and at times on defense.

I thought Evan played well today. Evan isn't the problem right now. No Fred/Landry/Conner is the problem.

Zach and Rashard look like sophomores. Lots of talent there. They are getting closer. Bush played a good game today. Anton was getting doubled a lot. Showed up at the end to keep us close. We need Shaq and/or Eric to step it up.

Evan is not the issue. He needs to shoot better no doubt. He is a complimentary player that makes others better. He will never be a "Go To Scorer". I will take 5 boards and no turnovers from the small forward position. He is the ultimate team player. The lack of scoring from other people is causing the microscope to focus on Evan.

Someone else needs to step up and earn more minutes at the 3. Markis may be the answer to this. He did look good on the offensive end. He definitely has some talent. Zach and and Tyrone scoring more and not turning it over will make Evan's intangibles more valuable.

I am not afraid to admit I was a bit hard on Evan. After our discussion, I took extra time to pay attention specifically to him today. Yes, he performed much better offensively, which may have swayed my judgement a bit, but I watched him on defense, and he looked better than I expected. It made me go back and look at some of the replay of the previous couple games. EW was better defensively than I originally thought he was. He still seems to be a bit slow footed to me compared to some of the 3 men he goes up against, but his IQ and positioning was better than I had given him credit for. He is an asset to this team, and will be an even bigger asset once the team is healthy.

It is true that Evan is less of a run and jump athlete than a traditional 3, but he brings many other things to the table that other 3s do not. Kudos to you for giving it another look.
