If he does play the three, I seriously think that would be a good question to ask at Coach Marshall's show on Monday. How could it be worded so that it sounds like basketball fans who just want to know more about strategy and not tell him how to coach?

Maybe, Coach, obviously, not all players are as athletic as other players. Do you ever have to find ways to cover for a Shocker player who may be athletic enough to guard another player? LOL
I think it's very opponent dependent. There will certainly be games when Evan is more than capable of handling everything the opponent can give him at the three spot. The question for me is when we are playing teams like Tulsa that have extremely athletic three men. Also, something I hadn't really considered is that I don't think he's really been in foul trouble, but I could be mistaken. Part of it may just be that he has gone farther to the no physicality side than necessary. Could also be good for him as we get into the season and the officials stop trying to find fouls to call.

I agree with what you said. A lot of times, the coaching staff has to make a game plan considering the factors you mention. Very few teams have players who are always as athletic as their opponent. What adjustments does our coaching staff make is a great question.

Watched some of the replay. I knew EW struggled defensively in the first half (i had a good view for the first half), but my god the first 13 Tulsa points of the second half came against him and Fred. Those are supposed to be our experienced leaders. Yet, they got beat like a dog. This is what happens when they play out of position and hurt.

This is exactly what I was trying to say. The only difference is FVV had a bad ankle and a bad hammy. EW looked better against ESU. I think he is actually making some adjustments and it is improving his defensive performance. I also think it may have had as much to do with competition level as anything else.

I think that anyone who thinks someone is 'turning the corner' by saying they had an outstanding game against Emporia State is fooling themselves. 100 percent of the rest of the teams we will be playing will have better althleticism. If you said this after our upcoming game with USC, then I might buy it.

              Drake might be less athletic.

Did you stop reading after after the "I think....it is improving his defensive performance."? I think if you read the sentence after that, you'd see that I also said, "I also think it may have had as much to do with competition level as anything else." Also pretty sure I never said anything about him turning any proverbial corner, so I don't know what to take from that part of your comment. I'm one of the guys that has been saying all along that EW hasn't shown that he's fleet footed enough to defend the 3 spot, so I think you're agreeing with me, in your own argumentative way. :)

Maybe Wessel should play the 4 on D and let Kelly guard the SF.

Just because someone plays the 3 on offense, doesn't necessary mean he guards the 3 on defense. See Tekele Cotton.

EW hit his average today in 29 minutes. Lots of dead minutes by the seniors.

He finally appeared to get a bit of his hustle back on loose balls, but offensively and defensively, he was a liability.

Hey but he DID have a great game against Emporia State. Now, if we can just cancel a couple of upcoming games and substitute them with a home and home against Washburn, we'll be set.

Did you watch the game Shockda? I'll give you the offense (he hasn't shown that he can do it on offense along with most of the team today). But did you actually watch him play defense? You've been on him for his defense and I didn't watch the game enough last time to know but today, I watched the first half twice so far and Wessel has been great on defense. He played great help defense helping others and one time JRS lost his man on the inbounds play and Wessel tried to close on his three but it was not his man even though it looked like it. He was after lots of loose balls.

And he was 1 for 5 from the field when the coach told the team they needed to step it up. I like his hustle, but his an offense is now such a huge liability I don't see where he's deserving of the minutes he's getting.
