Agreed. I can't think of too many mistakes our coaching staff has made. That's because even those that have transferred from WSU didn't fail, they just got beat out by someone who was also really good.

If this is true, this is a nice little pickup for us. I saw him play against UK, and while I don't remember him doing all that much, you could tell he was a pure shooter just by watching his stroke. He has fantastic form and a really quick release.

I think he has a chance to be a good player. It's a bit unfair to expect him to replace Fred or Ron, it's going to take more than one player to replace either of those guys.

Peyton looks like a great piece to fit the team we'll have over the next few years.

In the mold of Ron and Toure, our 2 guards are often strong ball handlers, who can create mismatches and finish at the rim.

With Peyton's length and build, he may be a better defensive assignment than some of our thinner guards.

A year in the system should improve his athleticism, defense and rebounding.

I hate guys like this at other schools, which means I'm sure to love him as a Shocker.

I look forward to the "seasons" when HC3G routinely recruits players with better skill sets and potential than both FVV and RB. In fact, IMO we may already have such players on our roster.

I've stayed mum on this topic, but I will say I'm definitely in the school of thought that we potentially have a bench of young guys who are better than their Senior starter equivalents when they were freshmen. How they develop, and how they fit into the system is yet to be seen completely, but the comments I've seen from people in the know on these young bloods are that they have the desire plus the talent to be just that. How you out-do two All-Americans is beyond me, but I think we might see it.

You take kids with talent and give them to Gregg Marshall. You give Marshall 4 and 5 start recruits (or the undiscovered equivalent). He will still elevate their game in the same way he does with everyone else. Marshall takes good players and makes them great by teaching them the game. He doesn't try to showcase individuals, he takes each player and forces them to play hard, smart and selfless. I think a lot of our players who became special, would not have been as special under other coaches.

I am not talking about Fred, Ron and Cle. I am talking about a really long list of everyone else in the last 7 or 8 years. You out-do two All-Americans by continuing to give a better and better crop of talented recruits to Gregg Marshall. He will make more All-Americans. I have no doubt.

IMO a key to the continued/improved success of the Shockers is HC3G's strategy of recruiting players who can be coached and will play for him for as long as they are eligible. FVV, RB and EW are three terrific individuals to provide leadership to incoming recruits; thus, enhancing the likelihood that our Freshmen and Sophomore will maximize their individual potentials. This key point is why I think within the next 2-3 years Marshall will have the Shockers routinely in the Top Ten, receiving top Seeds in the Big Dance and with a reasonable chance to win the NC.

IMO the Shockers do not have to adopt the OAD strategy of the "Blue Bloods" to become a dominant college basketball program.

Peyton enters about 15:00 in, and immediately hits a jumper from the key and a 3 from the corner.

Looks a lot like Ron's game early on in his career.

An excellent measuring stick. You could call it the Grant Gibbs Memorial Yardstick. Or maybe name it after Ben Jacobson (the UNI player, not JacobsEn the coach) or Jake Odum.
