  • Shaq Morris played with torn cartilage and a misaligned kneecap last season

Story from Paul about rule changes, but has a blurb about Shaq having knee surgery to fix torn cartilage and realign his kneecap. I had no idea he had a knee injury AND played through it. He started practicing on it and said he can already feel a higher leap.

I'm looking for a lot from Shaq next season. Hopefully he will be able to recover in time for someone to work with him on his footwork, which (besides the injury) appears the only thing holding him back. Knowing he played hurt that bad this season ought to scare a lot of Valley teams.

Excessive Fouling is what holds Shaq back. Hopefully knee is healthy enough to start summer work outs.

Although I completely agree with you, I also think that going from a bad knee to a healthy knee may be the first step in achieving better footwork. And better footwork on the defensive end of the floor could decrease his foul problems too.

That's pretty incredible that he played that well at the end with that injury.

To be devil's advocate here, how much of his footwork issue was from having torn cartilage and a kneecap off center?

I absolutely love Shaq! Looking forward to seeing the version that can run fast and jump high.

Well, I've never tried it, but I can't help thinking that finding every step uncomfortable is both a hindrance and a distraction from what one is supposed to be doing.

Not only was he playing, but he played at a level that earned him minutes and HCGMs respect in HCGMs system. Neither are easy to do healthy, let alone with a bum knee.

In Hawaii he was pretty amazing in the pregame dunk line. NBA-level stuff regardless of body type, and within the context of body type I'm pretty certain that Glen Davis and DeJuan Blair couldn't do what he was doing.

To do it with knee problems is amazing. If he takes his rehab seriously I say he is the early favorite on this team to take Tekele's SportsCenter Top 10 crown.
