To shorten the clock in order to speed up the game and not take the opportunity to eliminate timeouts seem disingenuous. TV money would be the only reason not to.

Considering Gregg's disdain of time outs, preferring to rely on having prepared players on the floor, I believe that the elimination of a TO would be to our advantage.

Removal of the 5 second rule is included in the proposed changes. Good.

Getting teams out of time out huddles is an objective. Gregg does like to utilize that time to it's fullest.

Making teams substitute expeditiously for disqualified players is a good move. Frankly they should not allow teams to return to the benches in those instances. Make the non-disqualified players stay away from their coaches.

This. The shortened clock is just one more Sour 5 move to stack the deck.

I'm not a fan of the arc. I feel like it makes the ref's job more difficult, not easier. They need to address the underlying problem that the arc is supposed to solve in a more fundamental way.

It sounds like the 30-second shot clock proposal has been approved, along with the women playing four 10-minute quarters.

            All the adopted changes

Can somebody tell me a reason for 4-10 minute quarters rather than 2-20 minute halves? Other than the 2 added, forced timeouts, is there a difference that I'm just not wrapping my head around?

I'm hoping, and it's clearly a hope, that you could get rid of four (two each half) of the media timeouts. Instead of doing an under 16, 12, 8, 4 minute media timeout, you could have an under 5 timeout each quarter, and then a timeout at the end of each quarter. I would actually prefer that.

Now, this being said, the NCAA will likely keep all the media timeouts and just force 2 additional. The math doesn't work as cleanly though with four 10 minute quarters. So, be prepared for the "under 7 minute" and "under 4 minute" timeout.

There's also the two additional forced shots.

I don't understand why they ever went away from quarters to begin with. College is the only basketball division that doesn't divide the game into quarters.

                      This is the plan.

                      FROM THE NCAA PRESS RELEASE:
Under the new proposal, one media timeout in televised games would be permitted for each quarter. Media timeouts would occur at the first dead ball at or below the five-minute mark of each quarter and at the end of the first and third quarters. However, if a team calls timeout before the five-minute mark, that would be treated as the media timeout. Additionally, the first called team timeout in the second half would be treated as a full media timeout.
                      78-65

Liked the comments this guy is making about rule changes and especially the clock. Plus I've noted over the years that when the Pro game (24 second clock) gets in to the playoffs their games slow down and grind it out in the half court just like college.
