In regards to utilizing the shot clock, just because a team uses the entirety of a shot clock doesn't inherently mean they're an inefficient offense. Sometimes it can be deliberate so you limit an opponents possible time with the ball. Every time you use 35 seconds, that is 35 seconds without the ball for the other team. I think the idea that shortening a shot clock will make the game inefficient because teams will jack shots up is probably pretty flawed across the generalization of college hoops. I think that the shortened shot clock will hurt some teams that have offensive issues, but I think it's main purpose is to speed up the games of teams who utilize the entire shotclock on purpose rather than the ones who do it out of ineptitude. I don't think those extra 5 seconds make or break UNI's ability to score the ball, with their 349th ranked possessions per game stat. I think they utilize those extra 5 seconds to limit their opponents possible time of possession and dictate their grind it out style of hoops on their opponents.
I think where there will be a big jump up is for teams like WSU who can play both an uptempo and slow tempo pace of game. WSU's possessions per 40 stat is ranked in the 300th area nationally, but we're ranked 4th in conference. To show that being a low ranked team in possessions per 40, not equating to inefficiency, WSU was ranked 23rd in the country for points scored per possession at 1.093. The opposite would be Bradley ranked 327 in possessions per 40, and 339th in points per possession. UNI just like WSU has an extremely low ranking in posessions per 40 at 349, but ranked 18th in points per possession. How I take the possessions per 40 stat for WSU is that we basically play to our opponents, and like I was saying in the first paragraph, our opponents are dictating our number of possessions by running the clock all the way down. And more so in conference than out of conference. I'd expect our possessions/game in conference to go from 61 per 40 minutes up to 64-65. If you look the non conference and conference games separately, WSU averaged 66.79 possessions per game out of conference and 61 in conference.
I really feel for the teams in the MVC. Because most run a long shotclock out of ineptitude and not out of purposeful efficient slow tempo basketball. Ill St., Evansville & Loyola the only other teams who run a semi-efficient offense at a faster than snails pace.

Too many teams in college basketball waste those 5 seconds by simply walking the ball up the court every possession. They take 8 to 9 seconds to get the ball into the front court without full court pressure, just walking it up. Then, they get across the timeline and waste some more time. I agree with Kai, it's a way to take time off the clock to shorten the game because they simply are not talented enough to get up and down on both sides of the floor to compete with better teams.
And, is it just me, or does it seem like a lot of these rules favor WSU? 1. I think I remember 1 game all of last year (and it's the only game I remember since Marshall has been here) where we used 4 timeouts in the entire game. He often never used the use it or lose it TO at the end of the 1st half. 2. No restart of the 10 second clock with a TO? Advantage WSU with it's press breaking ability (FVV) and great Defensive pressure. 3. Lowering shot clock to 30 seconds. WSU is talented enough to run an offense without needing those extra 5 seconds, and forced plenty of shot clock violations with 35 seconds. Now, less energy (5 seconds worth) has to be spent to get those violations.

The Finding WU thing is the WORST one out there. If anything, bring back the Cash Crawl from the 90s from which Finding WU was obviously spun from. That game actually was decent and didn't involve an idiotic mascot MOVING when the crowd gears the person to the right direction, basically defeating the whole purpose.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.
