Hell, even throwing items at family members at the game is too far. I know at WSU the fans can get on the other team some, including being vulgar...I've heard it. But I really hope that our fans haven't stooped to the threats and physical attacks. Or ever do for that matter

I read the article and thought of several items.
          (i) Look at the level of emotion here on SN. If there was a poll to run Gal out of town, how many would vote to do so? In four years, it will be some other player that didn't live up to our expectations. Of course, Shocker fans never disliked a particular player in the past. Right? And Turgeon was the devil incarnate. Right?
(ii) How does the behavior described compare with http://www.coachwyatt.com/johnnybright.html?
(iii) Coaches, teams and schools love passionate fans and "the more fanatic, the better" seems like a mantra in sports. At some point, does the blame shift from those fans who are easily influenced by passionate appeals to support Oregon or Illinois or WSU to the coaches or ADs or universities or alumni associations? The fans are not acting in isolation; ESPN brings a "circus" to televised games, fans might be up all night waiting for a game to begin, etc. Imagine if WSU has soccer teams and soccer fans!! ;-)
(iv) This is probably cyclic to some extent.
          (v) I'll be told I'm not a "good" Shocker for bringing up (i).

          Probably Here Next Year (2):
          Mantas Griskenas

That Leaves 4 Spots to Fill From:
          J.T. Durley
          Gal Mekel
          Wendell Preadom
          Graham Hatch
          Additional TBD Recruits

My guess is HCGM will sign a minimum of two more. In that case, my guess is that Gal and Graham will "decide" to pursue other opportunities.

Whether or not HCGM decides to sign another 1 or 2 players on top of that will probably depend on what kind of commits he is able to get and how he assesses J.T.'s chances of becoming the kind of player he wants.
Of course, it's possible J.T. and Wendell may make the decision for HCGM and depart on their own accord.

While I have listed EO as probably here, that also remains a wild card that is difficult to assess.
Anyone who prefers Wendell over Gal is wearing very strange glasses IMO.
Are you are Gal related or involved in anyway? If anyone says anything that might be he least bit negative toward Gal you are right there defending him back to the start of the season when you said he should start ahead of Matty B?
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

I think JT has the stuff(pardon me in im baseball mode) to become a heck of a player. for our team.
            needs to work on defense.

            i hope antiquwan comes

Did anyone catch that TA&M/Baylor game last night? Several items were thrown on the court several times in dispute of the refs. Enough times that the commentators called the fans "Classless".

What suprised me was that the refs never issued any warnings or levied any t's? I was also surprised that Scott Drew, Baylor's Coach didn't do anything to correct the actions of the crowd ala Mark Turgeon at times at WSU.

Spinelli even got t'd up after an altercation between players on the teams during the second half last night and he had to be pulled back to the bench!

Insulting the crowd even more was the final play of the game in which the Ags stole the ball at half court and the player ran down and threw the ball up against the backboard from about the three point line and jumped up and slammed it off the rebound. I don't root for the Ags but it was a nice slap at the fans that were acting like total idiots.

They had a record crowd for that game last night...10,450.

Obviously there is a line. You should leave a players family alone. You shouldn't throw things. You shouldn't physically touch a player. You shouldn't chant obscenities. But most of the stuff SI complained about I consider just fair game.

For whatever reason the SEC doesn't seem to do mean stuff. Maybe because basketball is an afterthought for most of the conference, and Kentucky, the biggest hoops school in the conference, just doesn't do things that way (they'll boo their own team, sure, but they'll usually applaud the effort of the opposing team).

The media (ESPN especially) I think is responsible for a lot of what goes on. They celebrate the great student sections like Duke by showing them constantly and holding that up as the standard, and over the years every other student section in the country has copied it. And when they can't be clever, they'll just be crude.

One other note about the aTm/Baylor game.

A Baylor student threw something onto the court. There were two Aggie fans sitting near him. Someone in front of all of them turned around, pointed to the Aggie fans and said she thought they did it. Others joined in and the Aggie fans were escorted out.

And that is as told by a Baylor fan who sitting just above those involved.

Without question "Freedom of Speech" is one of the most important cornerstones of our great country.

But I also strongly believe it ends three feet in front of my nose, or your nose, or anyone else's nose!

I think A&M players were frustrated because Baylor kept fouling, down by 12, with under a minute to go. They just wanted to go home, and the fans were really laying it on at that point.

Sportsmanship was well gone on BOTH sides at the end when the A&M player did the dunk, but he probably figured he would be fouled, so why not.

Spinelli got into it with Diene, and got Diene his 5th on the T he got.

Theres do's and dont's when it comes to fans and the game.

I agree with Charlie for the most part. Dont touch a player, leave the families alone. so on and so forth.

Lets use K State as an example. When Brandon Rush hits the floor all 650 fans in the arena yell in unison Deadbeat Daddy. Is it low and/or true. I dont know But I find it hilarious.

Graduation rates is an ok target. *ala maryland*

And everything ever yelled/chanted/or steered towards Dana Altmans way is ok by me as well.

Freedom of Speech is not a free pass to do or say what you want. With Freedom of Speech comes responsibility and if you become irresponsible there are potential consequences.
