I'm not scared to lose Marshall... Just afraid to lose momentum... Bringing in a new guy does take the program a step back....but we play in a conference where we are the richest in terms of resources and perks...a good manager is all it needs if management were to change

    • Honest comment here, not trying to come off as smug...but if we're willing to pay 3G over $2mm to stay here, why would we then go after Jans, who is a PHENOMENAL guy and coach, but only has one year of head coaching experience under his belt, with recruits that weren't all his? I'd be upset if we didn't pay someone at least a million a year for this job. If we're going to walk the walk every year with continued success, let's (let the money) talk the talk.

      • I have another crazy idea. John Lucas. Two 5 star recruits have already said that he should be a coach, and a lot of tbe top recruits really like him. Now I know its not all about recruiting and getting 5 star players, but if he is a good coach we should go after him. By the way, the two players were Caleb Swanigan and Thon Maker, and There are reports that Thon will follow him wherever he goes. It's probably unlikely, just another idea.

Lucas has several skeletons in his closet most AD's don't want to take a chance with.

          • If GM leaves. I will be excited to see who we get. We will have guys knocking down doors to coach here.

No doom and gloom. We have the support to get a top notch coach.

No one knows that we can't find someone better than GM...

We just need to make sure we get someone who believes in what they can do at WSU. Not someone seeing the job only as a stepping stone.

But if coaches aren't being fired, it's a sign your program is winning.

I still hope and pray that HCGM doesn't leave, but if he did, Kenny Payne would be a fantastic pickup.
I'm sorry, but WSU is too big right now to Hire an assistant coach. Maybe the guy is going to be a good head coach someday, but I believe WSU can and should get someone who has Atleast somewhat proven it as a head coach.

              • Maybe Bill Self wants to be King of Kansas? Does Wichita have a good shop for decent hairpieces?

                • If Jans hadn't left and was still associate head coach, would we view it differently? Would it be assumed we would hand the reins over to him, or still look outside? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would have Fogler-Cohen flashbacks, but early this season we speculated the impact of the loss of Jans, so I think most have a fairly high opinion of him. I'm just curious if it would change anyone's thought process had he NOT gone out to get his own head coaching gig?

Exactly... As fans we have a right to discuss the future.. Especially when your coach is doing the same... Ain't no sky falling in wichita.. The job is sexy because of 3G...I Applaud him i and wish him well... If he goes the cupboard is stocked... Not how turgeon left it... Everyone wants 3G to stay, but the fact is he is being courted and is listening to offers, which says that his days in wichIta aren't forever...

If Jans had not had a solid year at Bowling Green this year I would not want him to be one of our top candidates if Marshall were to leave. One of Marshall's assistants took over for him at Winthrop, I believe under Marshall's recommendation, and he ended up being fired after 5 years.

Barnes got 5* kids in Austin too, and just got fired.

Recruiting is crucial to success, but so is development, game planning, and in-game coaching. Not to mention the off the court activities with boosters and fans that can make or break a program.

Yes, I understand. The thing is is he has HC experience in the NBA. I don't know how good he was as a coach, but as far as development he has his own exclusive camp for player development.
