Still my favorite Shocker. He did it all on the court, and was gracious in the few good times and large quantity of bad times during his college basketball career.

Gracious is the perfect word to pair with Perez.

He did a favor for me once and it thrilled a young lady, who admired Jason greatly. Jason was most generous.

      • Oh my. Now Roosevelt Smart is playing AAU ball for a team in ILLINOIS directed by this guy who just happens to be the father of the newly promoted Loyola assistant coach.

In fact, it's probably fair to assume that anyone on this roster is now being recruited heavily to LUC, regardless of any other commitments they may have made.

I'm going to need some more needles. Mine got all used up poking holes in theories today.

              • I don't know what to make of this, but ANOTHER Sunrise Christian shooting guard, C.J. Keyser, has also just reneged on his college commitment and decided to spend a year in prep school, either at Sunrise Christian or Brewster Academy. Keyser signed a Letter of Intent with Colorado State in April.

                • It's obvious that WSU is cheating.

                  • It wouldn't surprise me if these guys are taking an extra year to see if they can catch some attention from WSU, now that their former coach is at WSU.

What would surprise me is if the WSU coaching staff was pushing any perceived ethical boundaries to go after guys who have made commitments to Loyola and Colorado State. Marshall recruits players to be starters. He doesn't recruit for bench strength or role players.

Might players at Sunrise want an extra year to see if they might get to go to WSU? Absolutely. Players want to play for winning programs. Would the WSU coaching staff cross perceived ethical boundaries to go after players likely to be lesser players than they are currently recruiting? Why would they do that? To put themselves in a better position with a lower level of recruits?

That's pretty good. Gotta give credit where it's due. But actually -- like some other swella notions about recruiting, I might add -- it's only half-vast.

You think Loyola will ever get back to the NCAA Tournament?

I'm rooting for Loyola. But that is a deep burn. I'm not sure they'll recover.

Winning draws a penetrating, hot spotlight of wonder. Smart coaches stay smart.

Yes, clearly. Gregg Marshall has built a top 10 team, and top 25 program, on the backs of guys reneging from the likes of Loyola Marymount Chicago and Colorado State. Totally a rational blueprint for top flight success.
