On the same day, Lindsted also followed on Twitter Shocker Compliance, a WSU Twitter account about how to comply with NCAA regulations. To me, this suggests that Lindsted did his research to see if NCAA rules permitted a coach to follow on Twitter a recruit, namely the aforementioned Smart.

I have been tracking Smart's recruiting ever since the 3 star shooting guard precipitously decommitted from Loyola last fall by failing to show up for a group LOI signing ceremony at Sunrise.

From what I can piece together on the internet, I believe what happened last fall was that somebody on behalf of the Shockers convinced him to break his pledge to the Ramblers and head to the greener pastures of Wichita. But since the Shockers didn't need Smart's services for the 2015-2016 season because VanVleet, Baker and Wessel would still be around for their senior year, the plan was for Smart to reclassify as a 2016 recruit, enroll for a second year at Sunrise as a post-grad playing this time for the prep squad, and only then sign with the Shockers.

This explains why Smart apparently garnered little interest from other schools after his decommitment, and why he didn't sign with anybody in the spring. The recruiting website Rivals now lists Smart as a 2016 recruit, and Smart's Twitter account has a recent tweet from him saying he'll be back at Sunrise "in a few weeks."

I realize this is all speculation on my part, and that the major recruiting websites don't list Smart as a WSU recruiting target. But I think my scenario makes a lot of sense. Smart definitely fills a positional need for the Shockers, and I think it's not very likely that Marshall will sign any of the 4-5 star guards he is reaching for.
This is a known Loyola idiot. The "research" he sites is his own post on the rambler site.

          • Lost in all of this is the fact that HC3Gv3.3 and Lindsted are both great guys. If anyone thinks Lindsted is shady, they need to get over themselves...

and what the heck is wrong with Lindsted following one of his players on twitter? Maybe Lindsted is such a likable guy that Smart would rather see if he can stick with him. Sorry Loyola. None of this is shady. It's just evidence of a strong program who just made a good hire.

Thanks for teaching me a new word, "drabble". I really like it. And thanks for posting some of my Ramblermania remarks on Smart.

I agree that for the most part ShockerHoops is a nice community.

I've made my point and don't need to elaborate.

If Smart does indeed sign with the Shockers, then maybe I'll comment on the ethical angle.

What ethical angle? Milton is a fantastic player that Moser lucked into, and yet Loyola STILL is in the Thursday abyss. Maybe Smart realized he could learn more elsewhere. Maybe he saw what Eric had and realized he wasn't going to have that at all in Chicago. Maybe the people of Kansas are more of a draw than the people of Chi town. Pure speculation, but I bet he realized winning was more fun than playing on Thursday and didn't want to make any regrettable decisions.

                  • I like this guy.

I want to add that I am a huge pro Loyola guy. It would be music to my ears if they can start doing well in the MVC.

Really like your liberal interpretation of a bible verse. Do you work for Creflo Dollar and did you help him get his Gulfstream? Maybe work a little pump and dump (swell-a-felon)?

Maybe you're like this guy who likes to quote bible verses. He was a pretty swell felon who was a swellafelon by way of his pump and dump stock schemes:

Just because you butcher bible verses and pull evidence out of your behind doesn't mean you're right, but it does mean you could hang out with Harris Dempsey "Butch" Ballow.

I like Chicago a lot and I like Loyola a lot. I don't actually like having them complain about WSU so soon. Instead of trying to act like we are doing something wrong to be having a good run, maybe just try to emulate it and get on top of this league along with us. WSU is not shady. We just have a really good coach and a really supportive community. I don't think we need to be apologizing for that. Loyola needs to just keep doing what they are doing because they finished this season fairly strong. Who is to say they won't arrive next year? I think they will be just fine. Don't start acting like the rest of the whiny MVC just because they all do it. Seperate yourself. Just saying.

                          • I don't have an issue with anything that @swellafelon: has said. Were the shoe on the other foot, I'm certain many here would be speculating about the same thing.

Recruiting is a nasty business, of that there's little doubt.

Is wasn't that long ago that the relationship between SCA and WSU was less than favorable. Things change, and things could change again.

I have little doubt SCA was and still is in Mr. Smart's ear, just like every other prep player. If he got soft on the Ramblers, that's on him. Maybe he shouldn't have spoken up so soon.

I'm not blaming him, kids are kids. That's just one of the reasons recruiting is so dirty. I hope the young man makes the best decision for his own well being.

And if you don't care for the relationship between SCA and WSU, then I'd close your eyes and cover your ears, because this is just the start.

                            • A. There is no evidence we did anything wrong. Smart verbaled but never signed his LOI. This has happened to a lot of different schools over the years. I believe that Carl Hall signed with us after verbaling to VCU. Kids change their minds. There was a bio on Brian Bosworth (30for30 on our local ABC station) where Bosworth stated flat out that he verbaled to every school that he visited.
                              B. We later hired an assistant coach who was Smart's HS coach who follows recruit on social media. I see this like connecting to someone on Facebook or LinkedIn. Why wouldn't his former HS coach want to follow him to see how his career ends up?
                              C. Someone (swellafelon) with a 'gotcha' mentality creates an identity to post his hogwash on this site. To appear to be pious, he quotes a bible verse. ID has been created recently and reflects little activity.

                              D. Same someone posts on this website that he somehow has 'inside information' about the recruiting of this athelete, even though HE HAS NOT SIGNED AN LOI WITH ANYONE.

So, swellafelon, what is your relationship with the Loyola basketball program? Do you know the coaches? Doug Elgin? How are you getting all your bull$h!t 'inside information'?

                              • Also, no need to lump Swellafelon in with the rest of the Loyola fanbase. He's just one guy with an axe to grind.
