Another guy with JUCO ties would be nice, especially if an AA JUCO big was part of a package deal ...

I'd love to see Matt Braeuer on the staff, although I think another two years or so recruiting Texas specifically would be good for him. He's definitely starting to get the point where him coming onto the staff is a realistic option, though. He's built up some significant experience in the last eight years, has deep Texas ties, and will absolutely be dedicated to WSU, which is a valuable sell in recruiting. Still inexperienced compared to the assistants Marshall brings in, though.
I understand that people like Matt and want to see him do well, but other than being from Texas, is there any evidence that Matt has success recruiting in Texas, or has any successful recruiting accomplishments? I'm not sold on him being ready for this gig.

I'm not, either. However, I'm not sold on Dan Muller being ready for the IlState gig, but that doesn't mean he can't recruit like hell with being able to sell his alma mater. I do think having the personal connection to the school is a plus.

Recruiting's all about connections. Matt's dad is a coach in Texas, he's from Texas, and he's currently an assistant coach in Texas. He's running the Texas recruiting circuit and the longer he does it the more connections he'll have and the more valuable he'll be there. As for recruiting accomplishments? I don't know, what would we consider an accomplishment at Sam Houston State?

That would be the absolute slam dunk hire. Still unlikely, though.

I just found out today that my best friend from high school is a neighbor and acquaintance of Lew Hill in Norman. Maybe I should see if a bug could be implanted in his ear.

We have to assume Marshall is still WSU's coach, until told otherwise.

Mad you should know me better than that.....although I am surprised Toupee Bill hasn't given him some kind of second chance

Some of you guys around here are straight up fatalistic right now.

It is a completely relevant thread.

It's relevant now that GM is staying. With all the publicity, I bet the stack of applicants on Gregg's desk is 2 foot high. He will get a really, really good one out of all that. Actually, he may already have had someone in mind.

That was the case when he replaced Chris Jans last year and he was very thorough and patient in that process before hiring Coach Brown. I am sure he will want a strong and respected recruiter.

He may want someone pretty experienced considering Coach Heiar may not be that far away from getting plucked form a head coaching gig.

He may well want to let the Chris Jans situation play out with the possibility that he could bring Chris back on staff. But that is a highly uncertain prospect at this point in time.
