  • Lutz getting the 'Bama treatment on Twitter after today's column

    ‏@bob:lutz
All 12 Alabama basketball fans have caught wind of my column on Marshall/Tide and are letting me have it on Twitter.

Good lord, the replies are utterly delusional.

It's all about money to them.

Well...if you've ever had the displeasure of driving through Alabama...you would understand money is the main thing the state lacks. The Crimson Tide football program probably makes more money than all the residents of the entire state combined. Hence the states citizens see that the only way things work well (national championships) is if you have a lot of money. The University of Alabama has a LOT of money to offer coaches. In their minds...why wouldn't anyone and everyone who may be able to get a coaching job working for the University of Alabama not sign on????

I think Coach Gregg Marshall probably has a multitude of reasons why not to sign on and move his family to Alabama.

As I have driven across both Alabama and Arizona multiple times; IMO Alabama offers as much as Arizona.

Lot's of stupid from Bama fans. They really think it is all about the money, what good is an extra $1 mil if you are miserable and no fan support.

Love hearing Bama fans call in a national sport radio pumping their chests and then you realize none of these idiots ever go to the basketball games.

Like Paul Finebaum said, why would HCGM want to leave a job which he is the king of Wichita to Alabama where he would be arrested just for parking in Saban's space.

That's why coaches fail at Alabama. If the alumni want a strong basketball program, they need to be willing to take a deep and honest look at the entire program.....facilities, support and budget.

Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for a different result. Alabama throwing money at coaches over and over again without examining their structural deficiencies is insane.

Gottfried and Anthony Grant were both good coaches who appear to have been burned out by their experiences. Myself, as an unbiased observer, would chalk that one up to the stress and frustration associated with trying to build a winning program without having the community resources and support needed to be able to execute the vision.

Those guys didn't fail because they stunk, they failed because the situation stunk. And everyone else, at some point, will also fail because the of the stink of the situation, not the stink of personal failure.

There is similar madness going on in Austin.

Do you think Bill Self has chipped in to the fundraiser for HCGM to go to Alabama?

Well he certainly doesn't want him to go to Texas.

Keep in mind that Gregg would split an extra million dollars in salary with the Uncle Sam and the State of Alabama. About 44% going to the government and 56% to 3G.

Still a nice bump. But an extra $1 million in salary is not really close to an extra $1 million in Greg's pocket. Still not chump change, but not quite as grand as it sounds.

@kseminoff: #Shockers coach Gregg Marshall has gone over $2 million in 2014-15 compensation. $1.8 base, already $281K in bonuses.

                      @kseminoff: $36K each NCAA gm, $60K for S16, $18K 1st MVC, $35K 20 wins. $35K team APR .930 or higher; $25K meeting MVC non-con sked policy. #shockers

@kseminoff: #Shockers Greg Marshall can earn up to $408K more: $36K each additional game, $100K Final Four, $200K national championship.

This has zero context to the thread, but I ventured over to Seminoff's twitter account after seeing your post, and found this little nugget:

Wichita State forward Shaquille Morris says Nickelback is his favorite rock band. Seriously? "No. You thought I was serious?"
Love it! Shaq has to be a riot to be around on a personal level. I appreciate quality smart-ass-ness, and from what I've seen over these past couple of years SM ranks right up there in that regard. He really seems like a likable dude, with a nice whitty/sarcastic bent.

And he'd have to ask Saban if he could use the plane.

The Alabama thing makes me laugh. I haven't read Lutz's article so I might be recovering a few things he mentioned, but I'd be absolutely shocked if Marshall goes to Alabama. First it is already good coach graveyard, just look at Gottfried. Second, short of the offer being closer to 4-5 million it isn't that much more attractive. Alabama basketball will always be an afterthought. Further they could have the best coach in the country and they will consistently still be looking up at Florida and Kentucky. Texas on the other hand is a little scary.

Texas is a football school and would really be no different than Alabama. There's also a lot of question marks about Texas.. Barnes has had some damn good recruiting classes there and done nothing with the talant. Is it the coaching or is it the culture at Texas? Bama really has no question marks based on their reputation. Football school, 12 total basketball fans, limited basketball tradition, high expectations while looking up to UK and Florida, Promising coaches historicaly getting screwed over. Plus Marshall already ownes Bama basketball, I doubt he truly wants to own it though by accepting any crazy offer.
