What we are seeing here yet again is another cute cycle. Vandy fans were prancing around a week ago, with the same bullshit. After another week, Memphis fans will move on again and forget all the things they said here.

I think that pretty well sums up the true standing of the two programs right now.

First, I don't want to discount the Memphis program too much because I would be thrilled to join them in the AAC sometime in the near future.

Second, if Alabama, with all they had to offer, couldn't persuade the Marshalls to uproot their family, neither will Memphis.

Third, this annual rumor chase is kind of like doing the laundry. Just when you've washed, dried and folded a load, here comes another pile of dirty clothes to clean. It's never-ending.

Yeah, I put together a spreadsheet about a year ago, for my own use, that compared and contrasted various metrics related to WSU versus the balance of the AAC. From a fiscal perspective Memphis is fairly close to average amongst AAC and MWC type schools. They support MBB at an above-average level, which you'd probably assume going in.

If you take out Memphis' vacated NCAA Tournament results, here's what you get:

Final Fours:
WSU - 2
UM - 1

Elite 8's:

UM - 4

If you want to look at more than just team results, look at calibre of players, all Americans, etc. Most people can't name any former player for Wichita besides a few players the last few years. Memphis, on the other hand, has a very long history of big names.

Sit down for this because you might have a Sixth Sense moment here: The variations between UM and WSU bear no resemblance whatsoever to the gaping chasm that exists between UK and UM (and WSU for that matter).

The Wall Street Journal just came out with men's CBB program values a couple of weeks ago. Memphis and WSU are literally tied for the same hypothetical market value.

So Memphis, in an awful time where the budget was cut in half to make the coach uncomfortable, fans not coming to games to send a message, and boosters pulling money back.......was tied with Wichita......whom is in the midst of their best time in history

You would be incorrect, by all historical purposes they did not happen. You don't cheat, you don't win those games.
