The zoo will cost some bank. True, it is a great zoo, for those that are into zoos. I got this terrible fear and fascination with snakes, so whenever I get dragged to the zoo, I check out the mambas, cobras, puff adders and stuff. They are kind of lazy, just sitting there behind the glass not even moving.

You will have to root the Shox on for us.There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

My recommendation is to find someone in blue, striped overalls and chant "Bring 'em out - Bring em' out!"If you take the high road, you won't find much traffic there . . .

Henry Doorly is awesome. Im not sure who mentioned it but the Durham museum is really cool depending on your kids' age. It is an old union station they have poured millions into restoring. If your kids are remotely close to "liking trains" age it is a must see.
That said. I agree, Omaha is a drinking, gambling, smoking, tail chasing kind of crowd. You will find me at the playhouse (bbest gentlemans club you have ever been to) or one of the casinos. If the mood strikes I might become friendly in the old market...

Thanks, @_kai_:.
Yes, the Henry Doorly Zoo is a must. One of the best around - great for kids, DINKs (or SINKs). As a matter of fact, last time we were there (last fall), we had an encounter with the Oracle of Omaha. I'd also recommend the Durham Museum and SAC (Strategic Air Command) Museum at Offutt Air Force Base. If you want to support a Wichitan and Shocker grad, stop by Lauritzen Gardens (their Botanica). The owner of DeFazio's here in town has a daughter who is the Director of Marketing there. If fine arts are your thing, maybe you can catch a show at the Holland Performing Arts Center if there's something there this weekend. It's a gem and something I think Wichita very much needs (sorry Century II).
Depending on where you're staying, the Old Market has some great local restuarants, bars, shopping and also within walking distance of the Century Link. Immmediately outside of the arena you'll have plenty of restaurants and bars near TD Ameritrade park. DJ's Dugout was where I was hoping our pep rally would be, but to no avail. The Old Mattress Factory is a good spot as well. In and around the Old Market are some parks and/or walking areas that are pleasant and really highlight the area - Heartland of America (near the ConAgra Foods campus @ 10th & Farnam) and the Gene Leahy Mall.
Two other areas worth czeching out (a little regional, Nebraska humor) are Midtown Crossing with some of the restaurants and watering holes nearby. There I recommend the Crescent Moon, which is on the western edge of that development (on Farnam).
Other areas - Aksarben Village (near UNO), Dundee (this is what Douglas & Oliver is starting to become, IMO), and of course, across the river in Iowa you can find some gaming.
Happy to answer other questions or I'm sure @MoValley John: might be able to share some additional insight. @dwbarcl:ay also lives in Omaha and there are some others who live in the area currently who can completely poke holes in everything I've said above. Ha!
