The 82-83 team had lost Cliff Levingston (NBA), Tony Martin, Greg Dreiling (transfer), Jay Jackson and Mike Jones.

The only returning starters were Antoine and Aubrey. AC missed the first 6 games with a stress fracture.

The losses: 82-96 @ New Orleans (first game of season), 53-54 @ Illinois State (who finished second in the MVC with Rick Lamb, Hank Cornley and Dwayne Tyus) and 73-85 @ Memphis (led by Keith Lee and Bobby Parks).

The big question mark for us going into that year was PG. And James Gibbs, who had hardly played at all in prior seasons, was just outstanding. Steady, a leader, mistake free. Also, Zarko Durisic was a big part of our success. A very good rebounder, highly skilled as an offensive player and he loved to run the court.
We had experienced guys that knew their roles and didn't try to do too much. They trusted each other. That team was fun to watch.

WSU has won 25 or more games for the seventh straight season.

        Read more here: http://www.kansas.com/sports/college...#storylink=cpy

I think this might be an error. I think it is 6 straight seasons now.

That was a magical season.. Nobody really knew X would be that great as a sophomore. Zarko had a Paul Miller like year that does not show up in the stat line. Gibbs did a great job, and the freshman trio of Jackson, Wilbern and Cundiff showed impact on day zero (Game with the Soviets).

Do you remember James Gibbs nickname? Not flattering but used with affection.

I've always assumed James returned to New York.

25 Win Seasons in Shocker History

Ralph Miller (1): 1953-54 (27-4) Ralph's only other 20 win season came in 1963-64 (23-6). Of course, teams generally play more games these days plus winning 20 in the Valley of Death year's was tough.

Gregg Marshall Past 6 Years Combined: 171-37 (0.822) and counting. Average wins per year = 28.5 and counting

Thinking about this team again and realized it has been 32 years since that season.

How many of you SNers weren't even born in 83?

Also, if there had been an internet, and there had been a fan forum, how long would the thread be discussing the NCAA sanctions placed on this group? Surpassing EO for sure.
