Once again,a few have chosen to knock JRS and walk ons. Once again, I will defend. If these
guys did not represent value to the team do you think GM would have them on the roster?
Both JRS and Walker are solid players who are helping the team out. I think most of us on SN
appreciate them so when you make smartass remarks about them you are only making
yourself look small.

The other night when we were playing all scholarship players for long stretches and they even extended the lead. now that was exciting to me.
Don't forget that it was a WALK ON at Louisville who cut our 12 point lead in half on just two shots in the Final Four... You never know when....Kansas is Flat. The Earth is Not!!

You have to love it when JRS, JW and ZB5 get into the game. Generally, that is a sign that things have gone very well for the Shocks.
Did you see the bench last night when JRS hit the baseline jumper? Not only do these kids work hard and bring value to the team but their teammates love 'em.
One thing about being a walk-on is that you better be a really high character kid because that is one thing of real value you can bring to the table to help the team and I think something HCGM really values. I think the 3 walk-ons this year fit that bill.

It seems like no other team in the top 25 gets a less favorable home whistle than WSU, so I decided to crunch some numbers for WSU and other teams close to us in Kenpom (namely Oklahoma State and Notre Dame who are directly behind us). Here is what I found:
On top of what the chart shows, last night's game against Indiana State we had a -10 disparity which was the 3rd home game we have had with a -5 disparity or worse. Notre Dame has only had 2 home games with a negative foul disparity and those were Duke and Virginia and the disparity in both games was only -2. OSU has had only 3 games with a negative disparity with only 1 of them being worse than -1 (-6 vs. OU).Team Home - FPG Home - Opp FPG Home Margin Non-Home - FPG Non-Home - Opp FPG Non-Home Margin Home Advantage WSU 16.8 17.8 +1 17.7 18.6 +0.9 +0.1 OSU 16.3 18 +1.7 20.4 19 -1.4 +3.1 ND 12.2 16.3 +4.1 16.5 17.3 +0.8 +3.3
In other words, of the 5 games ND and OSU had negative disparities, 4 were either -1 or -2, while WSU had 5 negative disparity games, 3 of which were over -5. Of the 5 ND/OSU games, 3 of the 5 games were in losses, whereas all of WSU's were in wins. In other words, WSU has had as many home game with negative disparities as ND & OSU combined, the disparities were substantially bigger than the other two in spite of the fact that these were games that WSU was winning, not games where the foul disparity reflected being outplayed.
Obviously these numbers are limited in a number of respects, and maybe this just reflects how good a road team WSU is, but I have a hard time believing too many other top 25 teams are facing -10 foul disparities at home in games they are winning handily."Cotton scared me - I left him alone." - B4MSU (Bear Nation poster) in reference to heckling players

@HockeyShock: and I call the JR "Victory Cigar" Simon and Jared "Cognac" Walker. When Victor Cigar and Cognac enter the game, well, it's been a good day, Tater.Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind. ~Dr. Seuss

I always laugh when people reference getting a "friendly home whistle"
You can convince me that WSU fouls quite a bit because they play tough, in your face defense.
You cannot convince me that the athleticism that allows WSU to play tough, in your face defense does not lead to significant advantages that cause defenders be to grabbing, swiping, and fouling on the other end.

I had to laugh last night at Lynn M. After a series of questionable Zelton S calls, she was standing and pointing right at him. Extremely animated. I'm just wondering what she was saying. I know she has previously vocalize her disdain for ZS.Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Originally posted by jazztrane View PostThis is what gets me, back when we weren't as good but still playing tough defense I think we got fouls on reputation, and we accepted it because we didn't feel we were as athletic. But now our athleticism is superior to most MVC schools, yet we're still supposed to believe we can't play tough D without fouling? And I've seen other Valley schools play just as physical, but it seems they don't get called as much because they don't have a reputation for playing tough D?
This theory walks a fine line between healthy conspiracy and aluminum foil hat, though, so take it for what it's worth: not much.
