Hey Ref, when you say so often "That is all", why can't that be all? Just a question.

Didn't know much about this post-odum ISUb squad. After looking them up, it appears they don't take care of the ball at all (14+ TOs per game) and they are dead last in the MVC in scoring defense. Therefore, I say: Thou shalt covet thy neighbor's roundball and Thou shalt steal. This one will be about the guard play and we match up extremely well with them.

Anyone else remember the game at Indiana State when there was a fight and we ended up playing them 5 on 4 in part of the 2nd half?

Howdy, gentlemen! I hope you don't mind me making a quick appearance on my second favorite MVC board with our game coming up on Wednesday. This game is being shown in Terre Haute at the beautiful, 100 year old Indiana Theatre. Place has a gigantic screen (something crazy like 60 feet wide and 30 feet high) and is now a really unique banquet facility.
Anyway, I'll tell you a few things about my Trees this year. When we're good, we're really good. If we play 40 good minutes, we'll give your Shocks a game and might even pull off an upset. On the flipside, when we're bad, we look like a middle school team in India that's never seen a basketball before. Seriously, the highs and lows of this team drive fans nuts.
Our guards are ending up being our strength this year, which is surprising. Devonte Brown has improved his all around game and can drive an opponent nuts with his ability to drive the basket on virtually anyone. He can drive his own fans nuts with his ability to turn the ball over. A lot. He's also developed a pretty reliable 3 point shot, which he used to almost singlehandedly pull us out of the grave at SIU. Brenton Scott is a budding star. The kid has a scorer's mentality (no conscience, no memory) and has hit big shot after big shot all season long. I honestly think he's the runaway FOY. Tre Bennett has seemingly adjusted to D-I ball, and is seeing the court extremely well right now. He likes to drive the lane and kick to the open shooter, whereas Brown just likes to drive the lane and see what kind of circus shot he can hit!
Khristian Smith, last year's 6th Man of the Year, is having a rough season. He can't throw the ball in the ocean from the beach, and he's out of position and not getting many boards. He plays tough D, though, and is a leader on the court. His best friend died last spring, and I think it's still in K's head. Behind him, you've got a freshman that is almost a freak athletically - Alex Etherington. He lost about a month early in the season to a stress fracture, but his game has made strides in the last month. When he's on, he's a deadly shooter, and he can drive right around almost anyone. But, he's far more prone to freshman mistakes than Brenton Scott.
Kitch and Gant are playing as consistenly as they ever have. They don't have eye popping stats, but they are solid on D and are giving us roughly 16 and 10 combined on the offensive end. If they can get it going against your front line, we could have a real game on our hands. But we'll see on that point. By far, our most athletic big is TJ Bell. A soph who has really started to come on this year. He's foul prone, and still makes dumb mistakes, but he can also go around, under, and over anyone in the paint if he's on. He's young, so him being "on" is sort of a hit and miss proposition.
I'd like to think that this is a matchup of the two best coaches in the MVC (obviously Jacobson is right there, too) and a team that is here now, vs a team that is going to make noise next year. One thing that I think might work in our favor - as someone stated earlier in this thread, any loss by the Shocks to anyone other than UNI is going to be considered a bad loss. We're not in discussion for really any postseason, thanks to our god-awful non-con. So, you have a classic matchip between a team with everything to lose vs a team with nothing to lose.
There's my (not so) quick synopsis of the Sycamores, since several of you said you really didn't know anything about the post-Odum Trees. Hope I didn't intrude. Here's to a great game tomorrow!!!
Shocks by 15, but hopefully a lot of that comes at the line in the last 2 minutes!!!
