As long as he is winning at a high level. Case in point Mean Gene. As long as he was winning his embarrassing of the field stuff was ignored. Quit winning.....well the rest is history.

I guess my thought is...why CAN'T you be both...very good and gracious for the hour you are paid handsomely? I think he's a FANTASTIC coach, but there are several ways to skin a cat and leaving yourself with those who love you when you struggle is not a bad thing, either.

You nailed my biggest concern...he's coming off more and more Roy Williams like with extremely thin skin in these types of interactions the more success he has....it's not a becoming trait for a professional.

Most businesses choose to not be rude and dismissive to their customers. It is written in some business management book somewhere. It can be found under the category, "Good Business Practices." I think there is such a book in the Ablah Library, but it has been awhile, since I was there.

Maybe there are exceptions for coaches of sports teams.

I don't think Marshall being less than polite (in some peoples opinion) on a call in radio show vs Genes off the field situation is really a practical comparison.

I agree with everything that has been said on her. You don't always get what you pay for. Coach Marshall is what he is and we aren't going to change him.

Now, iirc, Coach Scott Thompson was very good and polite at answering questions from the media and fans.

When the product your putting out is inferior or not up to standards,, YOU HAVE to be polite,,when there is really nothing that wrong with what you are doing 19-3 ,,,not so much if the team was 3-19 then ya he better be contrite and humble
From the road I listen (Tune In radio) at home I watch ( season Ticks )

But we payed Scott Thompson handsomely for th 90's. All 3 or 4 years he was here, he was a very nice and humble man. I liked him very much.

I did too. I'm just sayin in today's climate we really have nothing to gripe about. Spoiled is what we have become and seems like some people are searching for somthin to ***** about.

I don't really blame HCGM for his lack of patience. The vast, vast majority callers are incredibly uninformed.
I've said it before; the vast, vast majority of ALL of us are incredibly uninformed when it comes to his basketball knowledge. Recognizing this may allow him to formulate an answer to "educate" us peons; agreed it is US who need to avoid coming off as knowing more than him (that would be wrong) but I don't think a majority of callers take this attitude. Simply asking "why this vs that" isn't criticism and may allow for education. The zone question is a good example. He's tried a zone; it isn't as effective.

This has nothing to do with people looking to ***** about anything. It's just fans' opinions of the coach's attitude and demeanor during a show that is specifically catered to the fans while getting paid a decent hourly rate.

I love his competitive spirit and his obvious absolute disdain for losing. But there's no need taking it out on the hands who feed him.

Yes. I am not saying to fire the man. I am not super upset about it either, but I have a feeling he doesn't know exactly how unbecoming he sounds at times. Same thing with the kid and the mop. I actually almost 100% agree with JH4P, and what he posted earlier, which makes me rethink if maybe I am being crazy. But that side of him is clearly what makes Marshall Marshall. However, it doesn't fit in well with certain parts of the job. All in all, I love the man.

I get what you are saying, but most calls aren't exactly presented as well-thought-out queries about debatable strategies or decisions. More than half of those guys are uninformed compared to a turnip.

I agree with Shock Express and everyone on here. But I think some of you want smooth Bruce Pearl or Self or rick Petino because the descriptions are maybe them more than Gregg Marshall.

The question that needs to be answered is why before now has Marshall and WSU been a good fit. My answer is that is like us. He coaches with a chip on his shoulder and is willing to clash with the elites. He doesn't care about pilitical correctness. He says what he thinks and acts how he feels. He will go battle all comers and not give an inch to anyone. Because we all should know that WSU will never be embraced by the elites. We are the little guy fighting for every inch of respect we get. That is who Coach Marshall is too.
