Don't be obtuse. He gets paid a significant amount of money explicitly to do the coaches show. It may not be his primary job, but it is most definitely part of his job.

As of his 2012 contract (don't have his most current - Wichita Eagle eliminated the coaches salary database page), 3G earned $290K for "required" TV and radio appearances. It goes without saying that is an extremely healthy income all by itself, no matter where in this country you live.

I'm as big a fan of the man as the next Shocker fan, but it wouldn't hurt him to come off just a little more approachable and down-to-earth during media interaction, including his radio show. Every coach has a radio show with stupid callers; most of them are able to respond to the stupid calls in an amiable manner.

Everyone loves Marshall. Can we love you, and still ask a somewhat relevant question that isn't just blowing smoke? If anything even comes close to being critical, he clams up. It is annoying. You make more than 2 million dollars a year thanks to the people that support this program, and listen to this show. The least he could do is put on a brave face and act engaged. He seems bored and doesn't even hide it. I feel for Mike who has to navigate the whole damn thing.
When I heard coach make those comments, I didn't think he was serious. I wasn't there in person, but I assumed he said those things with a wry smile. I think Gregg can be a little sarcastic, I just don't hear what you're hearing.

I think if you made it out to Deano's and witnessed the environment, you'd think about coach a little differently.

Marshall is very good at forming a team that wins a lot of games because of his competitiveness and focus.

Marshall is not as good at coaches shows because of his inability to turn off the switch and realize that for an hour, he is there to give the fans what they want.

Just my opinion. I think Marshall is a good guy but has difficulty at times compartmentalizing his competitive focus and realizing that he needs to focus on other things at times. Kinda like how he let his focus trying to win the game and keep his players safe cloud his judgment when he yelled at the kids mopping the floor.

I love our coach. He has passion for what he does and is as competitive as they come. He isn't perfect and is fallible. Just because me, or any other poster scratches our head about a decision, reaction or stance he takes doesn't discount our appreciation that we have the best coach on our side. How he reacts to things should have nothing to do with how much money he makes. It comes down to good ole' fashion manners. Sometimes he has them (like me and others) and sometimes he doesn't (like me and others). He should do better. He is in a high profile job, so all eyes are watching (which probably isn't fair).

The callers buy tickets and make donations too.

So do many posters on this fine forum, but what does that have to do with anything?

He might have been agreeing with you, but not exactly sure. I agree with you both.

Roy Williams after a dumb fan suggestion of how he could improve his players FT shooting asked the caller if it would be alright to come to his place of work and offer suggestions how he could do his job better.

Have any of you heard Bill Self on his radio show?

I don't go looking for it, but sometimes it's on the radio when I'm in the car and I'll listen for a while.

The criticisms some of you are making of HCGM are humorous compared the Hairpiece.

I would guess that most winning coaches are just themselves in this format while losing coaches have to polish turds and give you coach speak.

He is pointing out that some of these callers are likely season ticket holders and SASO donors. Great organizations try and make all their customers feel important. You don't just suck up to only the high rollers.

I never inferred the above. I didn't say the stupid callers shouldn't get airtime, just that they were stupid.
