With all the attention locally and nationally this is getting Im sure Conner wishes he had used better judgement. I know at 19, in college we all have probably drank and let loose. If not we were probably around it. It's part of growing up and trying to fit in. Sometimes you can get carried away and usually you pay for it with a nice hangover or worse yet a dented vehicle or in Conners case a DUI. I'll bet know one feels worse than he does right now, and I'm sure coach isnt very happy but I think Coach Marshall isnt the type to just throw him out the door. He will get a second chance, and I believe if Conner is smart he will abide by the rules and become a part of a great team and program. If not, it will be adios. Conner needs WSU more than WSU needing Conner, and I think he knows that, along with his family. We dont know whats going on in Conners life, if he has a drinking problem, social issues, or if this was just a night of fun that got out of hand and is a rare occurance. Many of us have been there only to be lucky enough not to get caught. I don't condone drinking and driving because you see and read about the misery it can cause families. I hope Conner learns from this and shows Shocker Nation what he can do on and off the court and make us and his family proud...

I work with someone I have lots of doubt about who claims to smoke with dome bench players. There's the Jamar Howard situation in the past. I.F.C. even took exception to a fund raising party I threw once, maybe twice. Lots of opinions here. It seems everyone has to have one. Dude had no shot at playing on game day. I don't know this kid. I have no idea if he's a good kid who made s mistake, or not.
But this program hasn't had a lot of bad pub. Kids will be kids, adults will act like kids. All I know is that Marshall brought this team back from miserable depths. So I'm OK w/ The outcome.Phi Alpha

I hope everything works out well for CF and WSU. He is not the first 19 year old college kid to make a big mistake (and won't be the last). Hopefully it will be a wake up call for him and he works harder than ever to prove himself. He has some great basketball potential. I hope it doesn't get wasted.

Forgive me, but where did SHOCKvalue ever say that people shouldn't be forgiven??
Were you putting words in his mouth when you quoted him to make your statement about forgiveness?

As for your comments in general, you're creating random hypotheticals and then treating them as fact. ~10 beers in three hours would give you a BAC similar to that. So would ~11.5 beers in six hours. You're immediately assuming binge drinking and completely ignoring that the speed of which you're drinking at ultimately doesn't matter as much as your metabolism's ability to burn alcohol over time. You're making an assumption of binge drinking because it suits your general narrative, but I see no evidence to assume that's the case, other than you want it to be.
Truly inexperienced drinkers, after a night of that level of consumption, will have stomach issues when they try to eat breakfast the next morning. Then there's the "his alcohol level was only about .02 when he showed up for warmups for the game" post. Really? The State has defined that level of alcohol as too intoxicated for a 19-year-old to drive.
BTW, 10 Coors Lights (4.2% alcohol by volume) at my height/weight (6'4", 210) in three hours would give me a BAC of .135. Far too high to drive, but ultimately I likely wouldn't even have a hangover. Your generalizations are ridiculous.Last edited by Rlh04d; January 27, 2015, 09:25 AM.Originally posted by BleacherReportFred VanVleet on Shockers' 3-Pt Shooting Confidence -- ' Honestly, I just tell these guys to let their nuts hang.'

I've been known to still hit some bars from time to time. I've seen VERY experienced drinkers struggle with that quantity of alcohol over that time frame. If you think 10 beers in 3 hours is no big deal - even for an adult who has some experience with alcohol, go ahead and drink that much. Then have someone sober make a video and audio recording of you. Have them try to talk to you and ask you some questions. Have them ask you to explain some topic you're familiar with to them.
I'm pretty tolerant of alcohol consumption and have been for longer than some of the posters defending college-age drinking have been alive. Being sober and running into someone who has significant experience with alcohol and is at that level of intoxication hits my "disgusting drunk" threshold.
There seems to be a lot of "all college age kids do that" deflection of the issues actually involved. First, not all college-age kids drink like that. Some do. I noticed it primarily among the fraternities.
But we're not talking about "all college-age kids", or even about hard-partying fraternity members. Those people don't make ESPN when they get a DUI. Those people don't get their college's name spread nation-wide in a negative context. Those people aren't trying to compete at the highest level of D1 basketball, which requires some astounding sacrifices and dedication to physical conditioning. Those people aren't trying to fit in with a group dedicated to putting their bodies into the best physical condition they can possibly achieve.

There is a positive about this. Conner is a non-essential student athlete (in that he isn't an active player). Drunk driving and putting Wichita citizen's lives in danger does reflect poorly upon WSU ...
BUT, this gives the entire athlete structure a good teaching tool. Every coach from basketball to golf has someone to point at and tell their kids: "Don't be like him. See that link on the ESPN home page about the drunk WSU guard? Don't be that guy. See the mug shot? Don't be that guy. Go visit hospitals with grieving families due to drunks. Don't be that guy!"
I don't know what is best for Frankamp. But, everything I have seen from Coach lets me trust his judgment on how this will work out.

I can't think of a better place to help this young man become the man he has the potential to be than in the hands of Coach Marshall. Coach has seen the potential in him to not only be a successful cager but an upstanding man of character as well. After all, we know that men of character seems to be the substance of his recruiting. Even if the young men don't recognize this in themselves at the time. We have all made plenty of mistakes. Thankfully Conner didn't hurt himself or anyone else. Conner is a Shocker and I support that fact. I also recognize that he will have the best support network available to anyone. I can only imagine the tough love that will be directed his way from both of his families. His home family and Shocker Nation. Chiefly, Coach Marshall followed by some very impressive young men on the team. If my Son ever gets a DUI, I pray he is in the position Conner is in now. For what it's worth, if I didn't get a second chance in my career...I wouldn't have flown 1000+ combat hours overseas. The biggest honor was to fly a air refueling CAP over the Pentagon as she burned on 9/11. Someone saw the potential in me and believed I could be better than what I was putting on display even after I messed up big time. I know Conner will get that second chance to prove himself. I look forward to the time I hear the announcer say, Conner Frankamp for a Shocker Threeee at the Chuck!

Several times now in this thread it has been inferred that the consumption of alcohol is analogous - and possibly even a prerequisite - for good times to be had. This has been a completely alien concept to me for the entirety of my life. Can someone please expound upon this? I don't get it. The suggestions that someone who doesn't abuse alcohol is somehow an anti-fun nerd gave me a pretty solid belly laugh, as it would a whole circle of educated, successful, active people that I know.
Think about it, the highest and best use for an inebriated human body is squarely residing on its ass... maybe watching TV, eating Cheetos, or trying to carry on a best attempt at a cognizant conversation with other similarly incapacitated types. Oh, or sleeping, since alcohol is actually a depressant. Oh joy! Where might I sign up for this scintillating past-time? Sounds AWESOME! All these years and dollars spent in my own life to get out and actually live it, do stuff, and see stuff, could've instead been used drinking, sitting on my ass, and sleeping. I'm appalled at my lack of appropriate decision making.
Honestly, there is not a single thing I consider fun (activities as a whole not performed while on one's ass) that is enhanced while hammered. Quite the opposite actually, as most of the activities are either impossible, or illegal to take part in while intoxicated.
I'm not anti-alcohol (I actually have all 3 major such "food" groups in my home), I just can't for the life of me wrap my mind around the correlation that getting drunk equates to fun. And I'm not alone; there are A LOT of people who share that same take. We're not nerds, but you can keep thinking that if it makes you feel better.Last edited by SHOCKvalue; January 27, 2015, 10:14 AM.
