  • Much like my proposed Director of Fan Support and Crowd Participation, I propose a Director of Player Compliance to prevent this kind of stuff from happening.

If you have a little too much fun, give the DPC a call and he'll help you out. Other potential issues? The DPC has your back.

Again, ADES, just give me a call and I'll give you my salary demands!

    • This situation saddens me on many fronts but it could be worse, a lot worse. Conner will probably have an opportunity to put this behind him. Whether he has the character to take advantage of that opportunity remains to be seen. Not everyone in Conner's situation is so lucky. Some of them end up doing great bodily harm to themselves. Some to other people. For me losing a close family member to a drunk driver would be easier to deal with than have a close family member destroy someone else's life needlessly.

      • When I think about the reasons why a person would drive drunk even if they are someone who is against it, there are two that come to mind.

        1. Calling a cab and leaving your vehicle somewhere creates a complication. You have to wait for them show up, and you have to go back to get your car later.
        2. Calling a cab and leaving your vehicle will cost you a bunch of money unless you can go somewhere really close.

Maybe before we make community college free, we should make cabs free for people who have been drinking. Not that I think the government should be making many things free, but there's a much better case for that than for some of the other stuff we make free. Let's say you get in a cab, they have a breathalyzer they can give you. If you fail it, they have to log that transaction as an exempt ride, and they get reimbursed as a company by the government. All you have to do is figure out how to communicate to them where you need them to take you.

Is this a really bad idea?

          1) There was a huge red flag about Conner and his attitude right when he left KU.

Rumors have been flying ever since he was at North about his bad attitude and his high opinion of his play. Then Bill Self said when CF left, "We've lost obviously a very good shooter," Self said, "but we may have also gained some chemistry issues". Chemistry issues? Sounds like the players didn't get along with Conner and he was complaining about his playing time a little too much (which I hear was an issue at North as well).

The fact that Conner was BY HIMSELF at 12:30am (on a game night?!?!?) and that drunk says all I need to know about his character as a person towards his teammates.

          2) The last time KU had a DUI issue (since everyone seems to be bringing it up) it was with "class act" Brady Morningstar (who can really blame Brady though, his father was one of the guys that scalped tickets in yet another KU scandal. Not a great role model to learn from). He was suspended for an ENTIRE SEMESTER from playing. If that's the case with HCGM and WSU (which it probably should be), Conner won't even suit up until the Fall of 2016. If that happens though, he'll probably transfer to a JUCO and play instead.

          3) He's only 19 and this is his first public mistake. Unless there are a ton of underlying attitude issues with CF, he shouldn't be "gone" from the team. Punish him excessively. Make him run stairs for the duration of every practice for the next calendar year. This "one strike and you're out" mentality that some of you have towards 19 year olds that seemingly haven't done anything else wrong is quite astonishing. Yes, playing D-1 sports is a privilege, but that doesn't mean we need to treat these kids like convicted felons if they make one mistake. Heck, in 2 years this most likely wont even be on his record.

          4) Why did this thread become a conversation about what is ok and what isn't behind the wheel? I could make a case that driving with anyone by yourself in the car is just as distracting sometimes as texting and driving or even driving slightly drunk.

          5) Who knows, maybe CF is an alcoholic and 10 beers with a .186 isn't even that much for him? I'd love to see the body camera footage to see how trashed/not trashed he was. I'm sure it'll be released eventually.
I say #2 is a real possibility.Don't think HGGM was totally comfortable with the transfer in the first place. HGGM deals with it and doesn't have to worry about any more distractions down the road.

Unfortunately, people who drink to excess never want to admit they drink to excess -- after all they are bulletproof -- or is it invisible -- I forget. They have no clear judgment that they have had too much to drink and therefore are unlikely to have enough good judgment to call a cab.

            • Just an unbelievably bad decision. Hope he gets through it; would love to see him thrive at WSU.

So I can get free rides anywhere if I get drunk enough first?

Before we get carried away on this, remember he is living at home and suspect that is located out west. I would bet most of the team lives on the east side of town. Could be the reason he was by himself.

                  • Connor is participating in shoot around with the rest of the team right now.

It's hilarious how crazy fast people can come up with fun ways to game the system. Best intentions. Lots of unintended consequences.

Had to 'manage' a bunch of 10 y/o kids playing free for all dodge ball. No teams, no line, and last one standing wins. Only rule: have to throw the ball by two steps. One boy started dribbling within 30 seconds as a way that "isn't against the rules! I threw the ball!"

haha crap. It really doesn't work. In a big city, people who rely on cabs could save hundreds of dollars by becoming an alcoholic.

Was Andover unless they recently moved. Could be living with a NU player.

Are sure it was dog biting cone and not the girlfriend? And if it was the girlfriend, what was the dog doing??

I think everyone should trust HCGM's judgment and drop it once it's made.......period.
