From a realistic standpoint, the Valley-Mountain challenge is far more likely to happen than any resurrection of the Bracketbuster's concept. But if we're going to dream . . .

First off, no references to brackets or busting them. It screams small-time. Call it the Coast-to-Coast Challenge or something.

Second, pick the conferences carefully. Other than the Valley, I would suggest the MWC, A-10 and WCC. If they would be open to it, and UConn and Cinci haven't bolted, bring in the AAC.

Third, forget about a return game the following season. Instead, make the event last a full week, including two games, one at home and one on the road. They could be consecutive games (weekend, mid-week) or be on consecutive weekends. Whatever would best flip ESPN's trigger.

Set the match-ups as soon as all conferences have begun their league schedules and play the games the first week of February. That would make for a nice break from conference play.

Use Pomeroy as the primary system since it's far more accurate in early January than the RPI and in my opinion, the far better rating.

I was thinking more like having a psuedo pre conference play conference.

Where MVC, A10, MWC, WCC all said, in essence,

We agree that scheduling sucks. Lets agree to a package of games with each other over the course of X years where our non con will include games against the equal place finishing team of each conference the following year.

    Or even more games.

Aside from not getting games against power conference teams, why couldn't a group of conferences just agree that all but say, 2 or 3 of your non con games will be against teams in each others conferences? And make rules for who plays who.

We almost schedule to that philosophy anyways. Tulsa (American), St Louis (A-10), add a MWC school via the challenge and we have a H&H with Seton Hall from the Big East. That's 4 games plus an exempt tourney and we only need 4 more games.

Now if we had a H&H with KU and KSU every year, our schedule would almost be set on an annual basis.
