Maybe USU too, if they can maintain the level they have been at in recent years.

“We are challenged (as to when to re-launch the series) by the fact that we agreed to this so late,” Elgin said. “Teams are at a point of finalizing schedules. We are trying to get the right matchups within the constraints of games that teams already have scheduled and arena dates that are available.”
Games as part of existing contracts, yes. But teams are usually looking for games well into the summer. I would think they could get this done fairly easily by being willing to shake up the early part of the conference schedule. I remember when we often played a league game in mid-December, during the midst of OOC games.

I think it would be kinda neat if 2 or 3 conferences got together and agreed to have a yearly round robin of, say, 3 games per year with similar finishing teams.
Eg. WSU, UNI and 3rd place team plays each of the top 3 teams of the MWC.
The 4th -5th place play each other and so forth.
Guaranteeing 3 quality games per year."When life hands you lemons, make lemonade." Better have some sugar and water too, or else your lemonade will suck!

From a realistic standpoint, the Valley-Mountain challenge is far more likely to happen than any resurrection of the Bracketbuster's concept. But if we're going to dream . . .
First off, no references to brackets or busting them. It screams small-time. Call it the Coast-to-Coast Challenge or something.
Second, pick the conferences carefully. Other than the Valley, I would suggest the MWC, A-10 and WCC. If they would be open to it, and UConn and Cinci haven't bolted, bring in the AAC.
Third, forget about a return game the following season. Instead, make the event last a full week, including two games, one at home and one on the road. They could be consecutive games (weekend, mid-week) or be on consecutive weekends. Whatever would best flip ESPN's trigger.
Set the match-ups as soon as all conferences have begun their league schedules and play the games the first week of February. That would make for a nice break from conference play.
Use Pomeroy as the primary system since it's far more accurate in early January than the RPI and in my opinion, the far better rating.

Really surprised at the MWC kenpom numbers someone else was nice enough to post. Color me surprised that the MWC is but a hair better than the MVC this year, at least in regards to that metric. I mean a few years ago the MVC and the MWC were close to a wash year in and out, but they should be a step ahead of the MVC these days.
