I don't get what his reasoning for saying this in the first place was. How was saying that going to benefit anyone? It doesn't make sense, which is what Gregg said I think.

Now, if you told me that Ray said that because he wanted to get under Gregg's skin and get him off kilter, because that's what he thought was the best way to derail WSU, okay, I get that. Seems an odd course of action, but at least it makes sense.

Otherwise, I can't explain why he said that.

a) He is trying to make Ill St feel better about their program (ala Barry style, but only he can pull it off)
b) He is trying to make Drake players and fans feel not quite so bad about a 36 point ass beating as to favorably compare the Deadturds to the class of the league
c) He is naive/lacks saavy to the point he doesn't realize the comment will reach our fans and coach in mercurial fashion and he honestly believes the statement
d) He didn't think we played up to our potential and wanted to draw that out of us before the game here because he's trying to get fired sooner than later
e) The quote was butchered and what he really said was that the "range of prison sentences of the guys Muller recruits is/should be 1 to 12 years" and the fact he somehow keeps these guys on the court is more impressive than what we have done.

Yea I heard that on the coaches show. When Mike Kennedy told Coach, he sort of paused before he said anything. I think it took Coach Marshall by surprise and he said they still have to come here to play us....I think he might be alittle motivated when Drake comes to town. ISUr does have some very good talent, and the league as a whole needs this. I like this bullitien board material, and the drama that comes with it. Makes for a more entertaining season. Still was a stupid thing for Ray to say, but hey at least he has an opinion..

Give Giacoletti a break. So he doesn't know talent. And apparently he also doesn't watch opponents game tape, and has no concept of win-loss records, or RPI, or SOS, or ranking services such KenPom, Sagarin, ESPN BPI, Warren Nolan, TeamRankings, Massey, KPI, etc., etc., etc. all of which would seem to indicate WSU is more talented than ISUr. He's gotta be a hell of a nice guy.
