I think a lot of folks got wrapped up in what we could be, and expected it in November because that is what they remember from last year (even though that also was not the case). I've found over the past couple of weeks that when I approach this team like any other team with 8 newcomers, look for development every night, and salivate over what our play could look like in 2 months, I have a much more enjoyable time.

I also like to keep things in perspective. For instance, today the number 26 is helpful. As in, "Man, we don't always play every minute like a Top 5 team, but we have won 26 straight games against teams in this league." It also helps to think about this when other folks like predicting the flavor of the week they favor to win the league or beat the Shox.

We are 48-3 in our last 51 games. Unless you went to UCLA and were coached by John Wooden, that record is just stupid.

The internet needs a "dude shoulder punch" feature. Just for SHOCKvalue's comment. :tongue-new:

On that, why didn't they have a video with Cle in it last year? Guy sneaking out. Wu standing in front of him and pointing back past the guy. Cle running from the seating area "Dude?! Don't you want to see this dunk?!" and running back in. Guy and Wu run back.

And then after the game is over Cle would throw down a massive dunk for the crowd.

I've been saying they missed a huge opportunity where they could have shown all of the guys getting on a bus, it leaves, and then Cle comes out late.

It's funny, WSU gets mentioned (constantly) as one of the best home courts in the NCAA; yet we appear to not be good enough for our own fan base.

What happens at WSU games happens at Duke, UK, KU, etc.

Now, as for the in game productions/promotions..... I think we all know that can be improved.

We must be Top 5 good again, we're back to complaining about in-game production.

                My thoughts after 3 games:
-the team plays way better when Fvv is looking to pass first. He needs to be a pure point guard for us to be playing our best. We need some other guys to be more consistent scorers so that fvv can just focus on managing the game
-Shaq, Kelly, Nurger, and Bushs development will directly correlate to how far we go in March. We need at least a couple of these guys holding their own against good opponents come March
-Carter may be the most crucial piece on this team. When he is playing well down low and other teams have to actually acknowledge we do in fact have a frontcourt it opens things for our guards.
-fvv and bakers minutes are a little worrisome, but I think it will be ok
-we aren't as good as last year or the year before, but that doesn't mean we still can't go far come March. It's all about match ups

I look at it the same way. The problem this year and the reason I've been down is there has been little improvement that's carried over from one game to the next. Until last night that is. Last night was so refreshing. Even though watching the first half was like eating a plate of hot garbage I left the arena down right giddy. The new guys are starting to get it and in the second half our offense had a flow to it that we've barely seen all season. It was very encouraging.

My thoughts after 3 conference games are as follows:

The MVC is wide open this year, and there are no gimme games.
The second half last night is the best half WSU has played in the conference season thus far.
FVV is a dynamite player when he doesn't press too hard, just relax and stay within the flow of the game young man.

There's probably more but that's all I have right now.

Umm ... not really. Attend a game in person at one of those places and get back to us on that. Most of those places with DEEP tradition use orchestrated and organized cheering, chants, and songs that are led by the cheerleaders and they get the fans engaged. The spirit and dance groups at WSU focus on performing most of the time and not leading cheers.

At WSU games, the timeouts are packed with promotions that suck the life out of the building. Shoot, the band doesn't even play much at WSU games (a REAL shame, IMO, because they are GOOD).

During game action, Koch Arena is loud and enthusiastic. The problem is that no one knows how to (or is allowed to) sustain it across the game breaks.

                        I have been, thank you.

What I ment by my comment was the enthusiasm of the crowd is dictated by the play on the court.

I have no idea what you imply by this.

Fixing this should have no barring on if we are a Top 25 team or not. It has been an issue for years and people have been voicing it for just as long.

3 games in makes me suspect that our last home game against UNI could be very meaningful. What a fun way to end the regular season.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

The in-game promotions are most likely needed for cash right??? The Dukes/UK/KU probably don't need to rely on in-game promotions as much due to big dollar conference they play in. I'm just guessing there..

The two could bear to be a little less mutually exclusive, however. Looking at you, noise meter.
