While I don't think it's time to panic, yet, I do feel this team is not nearly as strong as our teams of the past couple seasons. Making the NCAA Tournament should still be an automatic unless these guys totally flub up in conference play, which I don't see happening. I also don't see us going undefeated in MVC play this season. I'd say 2 or 3 losses, with at least 1 to Northern Iowa.
I'll take anywhere from a 7-10 seed, because the key is getting hot at the right time. Look at UConn last season. They won it all, can anybody say they were the best team in the country last season? No way, they just got hot at the right time (some luck helps too). I agree the bar is set very high for this group based on previous performances, and I'm not sure what is going on with Baker and FVV. They really seem to be pressing bigtime this season. IMHO, neither of them look like all-American candidates to me, and I really think this all-American deal has gotten into the head of FVV, and maybe even Baker.
I'm still not as sold on the freshmen as some of you are, I agree there have been flashes there, and I do feel they've been better lately. Hopefully the trend continues and they'll continue to get better. I will say one last thing, anybody that is writing the Shockers off just because they've lost a couple games (not saying anybody here is, just saying in general) can kick rocks as far as I'm concerned. I was a Shocker fan through the Smithson days when they were lucky to win 10 games a season, I'm a fan of the great teams we've had recently, and I'll continue to be a fan even if the Shox were to take a complete downward spiral
