I was at both (last night and FSU), and the FSU game will remain in my memory as the longest sustained volume in CKA. It felt like the whole game was nothing but a roar (my memory's embellishment I suppose).

We still have plenty of loud moments in CKA, but as far as games being loud buzzer to buzzer I don't think we have today what we had in Turg's last years (again, my memory's embellishment probably). The fact that I was in the student section then, and now am obviously not, might have some impact on my perception.
    Re: FSU

No embellishment there. You are right on.

I don't understand why they are so bent out of shape about this.

      1. He (and the rest of their team) had already been warned very early in the game when they wanted to do a little taunting following a blocked shot.
      2. He continued to jaw the rest of the game.
      3. He turned and popped off in the face of the opposing coach.

That's going to add up to a T every time.

      • Those technical free throws earned us one whole point. Huge difference maker.

What ended up being the foul totals anyways?

Going the opposite direction, the quietest moment I have ever heard in Koch Arena was when Matty B. went down with his third concussion (and wasn't moving at all). The only sound you could hear was your own heart thumping.

To be fair, there are at least as many fans admitting that he needs to learn to just keep his mouth shut and move on after he makes a play. I've generally enjoyed the discussion they have been having, both before and after the game.

We we called for 1 more foul than they were (21 to 20).

                • Also we were called for more fouls despite the fact that Seton Hall took more 7 more 3-pointers than us and we outscored them by 14 in the paint.

Yep, I don't remember it ever being any louder than that.

Definitely a standard deviation louder than our normal "loud".

Well, in fairness to ME, I was at the FSU game AND the VCU game free throw moment, so I kind of DO have a frame of reference...but I'll let your friendly jab roll by.....they were ALL loud...how's that?

BTW....music of the 60s MUCH better than today's....(old person reference!):)

But kochHead is right: the decibel count we remember does rise every year. Back then, it was like a locomotive. Now, it was like a jet engine. And in another ten years or so it'll be up to a rocket launch at Cape Canaveral. Who needs fish stories when you have Iowa game stories instead?

The noise was so loud it turned Lute's hair white!

                          • Loudest for me was waaaaaaaaaaay back when I was 11 years old and a buddy of mine decided to take a chance walking down behind the goal on the floor where the towel boys sat. I followed and before I knew it....we were being asked to take over for the towel boys cause they needed a bathroom break. "Sure" we said. As we took our positions (with a mop and towels in hand) we all the sudden heard the crowd starting up a roar as they were witnessing a rebound from the other end of the court. It gets a bit louder as my head quickly turned to see Randy Smithson heaving a pass to Antoine Carr who was running full speed at half court. The Big-Dog caught a perfect over-the-shoulder catch just crossing mid-court. He puts it on the floor for a couple dribbles in full stride and all I can remember was me standing there under the goal like a deer in headlights. With a towel in one hand and a mop in the other I'm seeing this freight train of a man coming directly at me and I remember saying to myself (under my breath of course) "Holllllly Shiieeeeetttt!!!" Antoine flushes it with a two hand "tomahawk" thunderous DUNK that SHOOK the very floor I was standing on!!!! Pretty sure it registered on the richter scale. The crowd noise was absolutely INSANE and I've been ADDICTED ever since!!!!

Yep, I remember not having to wear a coat that day. I also remember the fans storming the court but don't remember if we already knew KU was our next victim at that point or whether we were just thrilled we beat a very good Iowa team to get to the Sweet 16.
