  • Alumni Association President a Wildcat?

    http://www.kansas.com/news/local/education/article4292005.html

Always thought the Alumni Assc President was a graduate of that institution. Guess Im naive. Resume sounds impressive. Hope she makes an updated website a priority

Seems like being an alumnus of the school would be a foregone conclusion for holding the position of that school's alumni association. This needs to be rectified.

WSU wants to move away from the commuter school rep, but seems tone deaf in certain respects on obvious issues. For example, WSU is the only school that comes to mind that gives zero consideration to graduate status when quantifying season ticket seating priority. I bet it would hard to find another school with a heavily fan-supported athletic department who gives no care in their "SASO" system (or whatever the equivalent is called) to alumni versus non-alumni.

That would be like saying that a person would have had to work at that company before they could become CEO of that company.

As long as they're doing their job.

^Example of tone-deafness, and kind of a ridiculous analogy.

I don't know about it being required to be a WSU alum, because there is something to be gained by getting someone that has experience and success in similar positions at other schools. OTOH, it just doesn't seem right to have a KSU alum in the position.

I don't know. It's a good thing Coach Marshall didn't have to be a student at WSU in order to be the coach here.

To be a member of the Alumni Association does not require that one be a graduate of WSU or any wschool, nor does it require ever having been enrolled in any class at WSU. It does not really require even having ever set foot on the campus. So why should the president be required to be an alum?

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

You mean even I could be a member of the "ALUMNI" Association? That just doesn't make sense to my feeble mind.

Hey, as long as you've got the cash, they'll let you into anything.

Come on now, 1979. It's an ALUMNI association, not a booster club. I don't understand how you can even join the alumni association unless you went to WSU (although I've heard ads indicating that's possible, too), much less run it. I've donated thousands of dollars over the years to SASO and the old Baseball Battery club, so I'm certainly a supporter -- but I never attended WSU, so it would never occur to me even to consider joining the alumni association.

Why don't they just change the name?

Maybe she'll take a page from the playbook of former 'Tiger' Debbie Kennedy. :)

Don't think it matters that much since most university presidents never attended or graduated from the university they preside over.
