The Boosters are there for non-alumni. An Alumni Association is specifically an association of alumni.Originally posted by BleacherReportFred VanVleet on Shockers' 3-Pt Shooting Confidence -- ' Honestly, I just tell these guys to let their nuts hang.'

There are a multitude of organizations in this world wherein some sort of ownership to the thrust of the group is a prerequisite. Not sure why that concept is so hard to apply or understand for an alumni association. It is not as if the WSU Alumni Association is akin to the WSU Foundation, where at the end of the day an ROI is calculated. There are no assets to manage for the AA; it is just a glorified club for individuals who fit the club's profile.
I sure am glad Bardo understands what is required to move away from the commuter school reputation, but I'm sad so few others do, especially from where we have come.
BRB... gonna go join the Ferrari Owners Club. I'll bring my Ferrari scale models from my childhood, and wear my Ferrari driving shoes, to the meets.Last edited by SHOCKvalue; December 7, 2014, 02:46 PM.

They can call it whatever they want, but that's not what it is.
An alumni association is an association of graduates or, more broadly, of former students.Originally posted by BleacherReportFred VanVleet on Shockers' 3-Pt Shooting Confidence -- ' Honestly, I just tell these guys to let their nuts hang.'

FWIW, I did a quick search and found that Penn State, Michigan State, Florida State, and LSU all allow "friends" of the institution (i.e. non-grads) to be members of the alumni association.
Like someone said, with many organizations, if you are willing to give them money, they won't turn it down.78-65

In your estimation, would a person one-credit-hour shy of graduating be worthy of being in a true alumni association? How about a graduate school candidate that has an excess of hours to graduate, but hasn't submitted a thesis? Is it only those with a piece of paper saying "diploma"?
Should SASO donors without a WSU diploma be excluded from Alumni Association membership? What about AA sponsored events? AA tailgate parties? It would seem somewhat hypocritical to me to accept their money but deprive them of an opportunity to meet the players or buy their nachos."I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I personally would not join an alumni association unless I was alumni of the school but if someone wants to pay the money let them. I believe a good portion of the dues goes to help current students.
As for the president of the association I would prefer it be a wsu grad but it's possible none applied for the job. As long as she makes the WSU alumni association better I'll support her.

What exactly does the Alumni Association for current students? The only time I ever hear about them or from them is when they are promoting athletic event get togethers with other supporters of the university. For example game watch parties, hot dog socials prior to events, pep rally events at the MVC, etc. From what I hear from them, they act more like a booster club for university supporters

Well, this is weak sauce imo. There are a lot of people who love the Shockers who aren't alumni and it appears to me that the Alumni Association is catering to these people like they were actually alumni.
I would venture that the Pep Rallies at the MVC Tournament have a good number of non-alumni from Wichita who go to St. Louis to support the Shockers.
