Starting in Wichita. Just looks like the most direct route without having to go east to Omaha. Depends on the road though.

Unless you want to see the sights, take I-29. Any gains made by it being a more direct route, will be given up by the delays through every burg. York, Columbus, Norfolk and Yankton are just the "major" towns along the way. Each town has no fewer than five stops. Plus the reduced speeds and stop signs in the "smaller" towns, you add more time then you can gain. But enjoy your trip.

I've driven it. I used to travel that circuit. Ten minutes longer is being generous. I would say it's closer to an hour longer.

Will have to make Tap House 41, but will also need to make it to Monk's House of Ale Repute, Especially since it includes Grandy Dancer Brew Works. I always love to try craft beers made at the breweries rather than just the beers brought in from everywhere else. Monks is at 420 E 8th Street. I'll have both addresses loaded into my GPS.

I thought that sounded very generous. Not only given the towns, but it only takes a few Sunday drivers or slow trucks in the wrong areas to really slow ya down.

Unless I have a reason, I avoid old style 2 lanes (not super 2s) if a reasonable 4 lane is available. Not only because I'm impatient as well, but I think they're safer.

Getting to SF from Omaha is obvious - straight up I-29; however, with regards to getting to Omaha from Wichita, those taking I-135/Hwy 81 up to York, NE and then I-80 over to Omaha are asking for a longer route (time and mileage). The quickest way to Omaha from the Wichita area is the KS Turnpike up to Topeka, Hwy 75 north to Nebraska City, jump over a couple of miles into IA and hop on I-29, and shoot north. Take my word, I have much experience getting between Wichita and Omaha.

I agree. I'm from Ark City and live in Omaha now. I always take the turnpike to 75. Getting on I-29 in Nebrasaka City is the way to go. You have about 2.5 to 3 hours on a two lane but it's much quicker than taking 81.
