The 're-seating of the arena will probably alter some of the home court advantage for the Shox by putting more high paying corporate types closer to the court.

So the conversation goes like this:

Donor "Here is my $XX million contribution to the renovation. Now Coach, if you will simply sign this 10 year, iron clad, no escape clause, extension to your contract, I think we have a deal."
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

            So then why build skyboxes?

If anything this helps free up seats closer to the floor for season ticket holders

I wonder if it would be feasible/possible to simply lower the floor 10 feet and put a ring of Executive Suites under the first row. The effect on the view from existing seats would be somewhat equivalent to sitting 3-4 rows higher up. The logistics problem would obviously be what to do with the press tables/scorer's table and team benches that would be blocking the view from these new boxes.

I still like the statue idea out front as well.

I'm sure our engineers on here could help me out here. Would it be possible to lift up the current roof or would they need to build a new one if they were to put luxury boxes above the current seating? I would hope that if it goes the route of adding boxes that they don't take out any seating and quite possibly add it.

I'm not an engineer and don't even play one on TV, but I would think the only viable option would be to add boxes above the current seating. The height that they would be above the court at Koch would be about the same as boxes at large NBA-type arenas. There are even a few NBA/NHL arenas with luxury boxes at the very top of the building. GM Place in Vancouver immediately comes to mind. While they're raising the roof, they might as well throw in a few thousand more regular seats...

I highly doubt they would take away seats just to add boxes. It's obvious that at this point we need more seats. I would think that they'll keep the amount of regular seats at least what it is now and add the boxes above them. Hopefully they add a few thousand more. Just my opinion

Can't they just unscrew it a little?

This was a potential design at Notre Dame when they renovated their facilities. They didn't do it, but it looks interesting.

Not that they'll ask me, but if they add boxes/suites to Koch Arena, I would hope they'd be at the top.

I would guess that the existing structure would not support much more weight to add either boxes or seats. Perhaps build a structure circling the current building that seats/boxex could be cantilevered from the new structure, and then angle the top to the size of the existing roof and move the existing roof up.

I would expect they would add them around the same level as they are at in the ScottTrade Center. STC also has those super-nosebleed boxes, but if your are giving big money for the boxes, do you really want to sit the highest and farthest away? (Maybe they could do both, if we are talking all ideas)
