Not that unusual, DJ, especially for schools that have been playing for a while and have older buildings. For example, when Duke sells out its celebrated Cameron Indoor Stadium and WSU sells out CKA, there will be more people on site watching the Shocks than the Dukies.
They play games against lesser non conference competition at The Pavillion, an on-campus arena. Bigger games are played at Wells Fargo Center (where the 76ers play).
Nova plays roughly half of their home schedule in a rather sad on-campus facility (where the 6500 figure came from), and the other half in the bigger Philly arena where the 76ers call home. The big draws get the big facility, the small draws get the small facility. Interestingly, in spite of being legends in their own minds, Nova finds the small arena to be the appropriate fit for the Bluejay game.
EDIT: Looks like Mr Pickle and I had concurrent thoughts.
