The only way to keep something like this quiet is to not tell anyone, including players. As bad as it is to keep them in the dark, it's just how it has to be done until the announcement is official.

That assumes that not having a leak before the official press conference is more important to you than telling your former players that you are leaving. I understand why the school you are going to (A&M in this case) would want that, but there is no way that they would decide they want a particular coach and would walk away from the table if the coach insisted on being able to tell his players before a press conference happens.

The reality is that leaks about imminent coaching hires often happen before the official press conference anyway. What is the major harm that these leaks do that justify forcing players to hear that their coach is leaving second hand?

Did SN know anything about Turgeon leaving or was it just speculation at the time? Did they know before the players?

I remember it being that on a Sunday night, it was announced on TV that Mark was offered the job. It might have been broken through ESPN online that he was offered, but the first I heard it was on KAKE News that night right before a commercial when they give the sports teaser. I called my mom or she called me...can't remember...but when the phone rang, whoever was on the receiving end knew exactly who was calling and exactly what the subject was.

The next day, a Monday, it was known that Mark was down in College Station, visiting and touring. There was speculation that he was probably leaving, but no one knew for sure. He came home and met with the players to tell them first, so we all officially knew Monday night. Mark, then, went back to College Station the next day for the job-announcing press conference.

This is not "Shockers of the Roundhouse" related, but I thought I'd post a story that one of my reporters wrote about Fred VanVleet. You might've seen it on the news over the weekend or Friday night. He spoke to Coleman Middle School students and killed it. I was there. VanVleet was great to the kids and left a good impression on everyone that attended. Here's the story ...

I imagine Fred would just have to walk into a middle school auditorium and it would count as killing it. And I'm sure he did much more. Looking forward to the article.

If you could ask coach Chris Jans one question, what would you ask?

Coach Jans, why didn't you wait for the Shocker's head coaching job to open up? After all a lot of the pundits claim Coach Marshall has one foot out the door.

I am interested in whatever the man has to say but probably something we hear little about is experience on the grind of the recruiting trail. What is involved in the process in a nuts and bolts kind of way.

I'm also interetsted on his thoughts on recruiting. More specifically, the effect of social media on recruiting and whether it helps or makes it more difficult. How does he feel about recruits tweeting the recruiting process and how does he feel about fans and other schools having all the details about who he's recruiting.

My pipe dream of a conspiracy theory is that Marshall told Jans "I ain't leaving, buddy. Take that HC job."

If you could punch one ref, right in the face, who would that ref be?
