Pretty impressive story on several levels.

Just a year or two ago, I played in a YMCA men's recreational basketball league. Wouldn't you know it, a few weeks into the league, we match up with a team with a very familiar face... I knew it was Jamar. I was the lucky player who got to be on the receiving end of four JH posterizations. I had been hot from long range with Jamar defending me (I'm just going to pretend he wasn't taking it easy on me). On a fast break, with the first three jams fresh in my mind, I decided I wasn't getting posterized again... Long story short, I was wrong! I elevated, but he elevated more. Shortly after the game I got to speak with him for ten minutes or so, and he proved to be one of the most gracious and polite people I've ever met. Definitely nothing like the "thug" that he was alleged to be by fans of other Valley schools.

The Randy Burns alley-oop passes to Jamar are still some of the best ever. He had some amazing dunks.

I think that article is a good reminder of, generally, how knuckleheaded 17-23 year olds can be. I know I can look back and remember how stupid I was at that age. Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling Jamar stupid but simply pointing out that we as adults and fans (often times both) tend to place not only very high expectations but even unreasonable expectations on these kids. They are kids, they will make mistakes and it's a part of growing up.

And, at least for me, it makes me appreciate even that much MORE the incredible group of young men currently in the program.

Very happy for Jamar. It sounds like he's found happiness and peace and purpose in his life where he can be influential and do some good. We should all be that successful. And thanks to Coach Marshall for all he's done to make this city a better place.

I must be the exception. I didn't do the dumb things when I was growing up. I just waited until I was grown up before doing them.
