Agree. Too many new (and unknown) ingredients to rank them any higher. As Fred said in his media day interview it will take more than he, Ron and Tekele to get to where they want to be.

Plenty of chances to move up early, especially with our schedule.

While I understand your point, how many teams ahead of WSU don't have the same issue? I don't really have any problem with where the Shox are ranked, but I don't think this argument holds up very well. Half the teams ranked ahead of WSU are ranked such because of incoming freshman, and at this point there is greater reason to trust Marshall's ability to replace roster spots than there is to trust the recruiting rankings.

That's a good point. I believe we have 3 outstanding players in Fred, Ron and Tekele. I think, but don't know for sure, that Darius will have a very good year although at 6-7 he might have difficulties against quality size despite his length. Evan will be a solid but not spectacular contributor. Beyond that I believe we have very good talent among the 8 newbies (no D-1 experience) but I have no idea what that will actually translate to in terms of 1st year D-1 performance. We know we will need 3 or 4 of those guys to be playas to fulfill our ranking. Furthermore, I think a lot of voters believe the loss of Cleanthony will be cause a significant change in the dynamic of this team, especially offensively. We are replacing a pretty experienced and athletic group of 4 seniors (pretty much grown men), one of who is now in the NBA, with talented but very inexperienced youngsters.

A ranking of 11 seems more than fair and reasonable to me.

To me our preseason ranking shows the Shocker program is now very well respected and if it proves to be an accurate assessment we are going to have another tremendous year.

That blows, I'm surprised they weren't making money off of ad revenue. Does anyone know where they got their info? As far as I know, they were the only ones that released the AP ballots.

Edit: I guess the AP website shows it but it's not a helpful format like Pollspeak was.

If it was previously posted, I missed it.

Just curious, did this years Shocker recruiting class get any sort of ranking or comparison with other schools?

                Like an A, B, C, D (along with +'s and/or -'s).

Actually a pretty tight spread for the pre-season.

Without doing too much work on a Sunday evening, it looks like an average of about #10 over all the polls.

Looks like last season finally woke up Ron I'm-A-Disgruntled-South-Carolina-Journalist Morris.

Looks like Randy Rosetta is still pissed off that WSU swept LSU in 3 straight games in some of our lean years. Stick to covering football, moron.

Were those lean years we swept LSU? I was thinking it was Mark Turgeon's last three.

2 of them were under Marshall because we started the series during the implosion year before Turgeon bailed.

Yep, Rosetta's rankings are annually inexcusable until he sorta gets a clue around mid-January every year. Why they repeatedly give guys a vote who don't give a flip about hoops is mystifying.
