As for Creighton being hated in Nebraska, that's really a given. Nebraska is a football state. Nebraska is the state school. Nebraska has always sucked at basketball and Creighton routinely beats them. Outside of Omaha, you will not find many people that follow Creighton, and those that do, hate Creighton for beating Nebraska.

If Kansas had the balls to play Wichita State and Wichita State stated winning the series, Wichita State would knock out Missouri as the most hated team. It's just big school jealousy and an inferiority complex. With Nebraska starting to take basketball seriously, it would be interesting to see if Nebraska beating Creighton a few times would change this. Probably not as Nebraska doesn't have any tradition and nobody would know who else to hate.

For starters, Nebraska leads the all-time series 25-22. So no, Nebraska doesn't hate Creighton for having the advantage in the series despite recent meetings, because Creighton doesn't have the advantage in the series.

The reasons Nebraska fans hate Creighton can't be expressed in a single sentence. The biggest reason Nebraska fans hate Creighton is the Nebraska football fan/Creighton basketball fan dynamic, which Nebraska alums can't stand. It's hard to come to terms with the fans that yell "Go Big Red" in the fall and "Screw Nebraska" in the winter, and there are lots of those fans. If Nebraska was better at basketball and Creighton never finished above .500, these fans wouldn't exist, although they don't even realize that fact.

The second reason is the emergence of the Creighton basketball fan in the last 8 years ("I've been a Creighton fan all of my life"), which is an annoyance. Many of your Omaha brethren seem to have come out of nowhere, so it will be fun to see Creighton melt down this year and the reaction of the fair-weather faction of the fan base. You can probably point to a third-reason, Creighton's mild NCAA tournament success vs Nebraska's 100% lack of success (i.e., 0 wins), but the first two reasons are much more prominent.

For whatever dumb reason, the Vegas tournament in 2006 didn't have TV for our USC game, even though the K-State game was available right after our game. It seemed like the Paradise Jam had either very sketchy TV available or none at all for both times WSU played there. All of those examples are also almost ten years old though.

Are you a Nebraska alum? Do you live up here? I don't know either answer, but I do know that I've had to live the stupidity from both Creighton and Nebraska fans for the past 20 years. Nebraska leads the all time series, but you need to look at the last 20 years. That is all people know, the what have you done for me lately. I go to both Creighton and Nebraska games every year. I work and recreate with both fan bases on a daily basis. I kind of get the dynamics of what is going on. Yes, I go to Nebraska and Creighton games, I'm a fan of neither school.

Sounds like a majority of Kansans. Purple, crimson and blue reversible sweatshirts all around depending on the season.

I'm a Nebraska alum, I'm from Nebraska, and I've lived in both Lincoln and Omaha, so I'm very familiar with the schools. For the record, I was a faculty member at Wichita State for several years while living in Wichita, so I'm both a Nebraska fan and Shockers fan.

I do have a bias since I hate Creighton with the fire of a 1000 suns, and I've hated Creighton since undergrad in the early-1990's before I was a WSU fan, which only exacerbated my hatred for the blue. I can say from my experiences with many, many Huskers fans and many Jays fans including family members that a large percentage of the hatred lies in the split allegiances between football and basketball. The other reasons I listed are true as well.

I agree with what you're saying about recent series history, but I was pointing out that it's not like Nebraska hasn't won in the series. I think Creighton has won the last 3 by blowouts and is 7-3 in the last 10.

What is there to like about Creighton? I've been looking and haven't found it yet. Their drunk, obnoxious fans don't help them in their cause either.
