DJ06, trust me, I'm rooting like crazy that your scenario plays out. This team will have a very high ceiling, no doubt.

I would say that Coach Jans' most valuable contribution was in scouting. That doesn't mean he didn't have a hand in everything else, but those are Gregg's sets, Gregg's defenses.....Not sure what you're looking for with your question.

3G has commented several times with regard to the tremendous scouting jobs both Jans and Heier have done and how that translates into great defense. Both coaches really get into the opponents individual tendencies as well as team tendencies. The offensive/defensive sets are definitely 3G's, but the assistants have to instruct as well. If they offer a practice, either open or by contribution, I would highly recommend attending that."I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

We all know that Jans will be missed tremendously and in some ways he's irreplaceable. There are many ways that he contributed to our program. Here are a few examples:
1. HCGM's right-hand man that labored very hard to build up this program to what it is today. He was tremendously loyal to our program and 3G. When you're a guy that wants your own head coaching gig, it can be very difficult to play second fiddle to the head coach, but he accepted his role very well.
2. As has been mentioned before, tremendous job of scouting opponents and putting together thorough scouting reports. He was almost always called on to do the scouting for key games. Many hours were spent preparing the scouting reports.
3. First one that recognized Ron Baker as an under the radar talent with tremendous upside potential and convinced HCGM to go check him out. After Baker committed to the Shockers, CJ was tremendously excited and knew that we had a great recruit.
4. In the '12/13 season, Cotton struggled tremendously with his outside shot. Do you remember Creighton playing off him and daring him to shoot from the outside in the game at Koch? Jans worked with Cotton for hours on his shot and was successful to the point that by the end of the season and especially in the post season, opponents dared not to play off of him on the perimeter.
5. Made excellent recommendations to HCGM for game adjustments that made a difference in the outcome. How many times in post-game interviews did 3G recognize that Chris made suggestions to change up defenses or make other adjustments that threw the opponents off and gave us the edge?
6. A high-energy and fiery competitor that inspired the team to compete at the highest level. He's not one to coddle the players but certainly challenged them to get better and to compete.
7. A natural ability to read lips that was very useful when looking at the opposing team's bench in game-time situations.
This is only scratching the surface. Chris will be tremendously missed, but his departure is part of the price of success. He will do very well at BGSU and 3G's coaching tree is growing. WSU will also continue to do very well with a very solid and respected coaching staff that we have in place today.ShockerNet is a rat infested cess pool.

The MVC will be tougher overall.
Despite being a favorite nearly every night out, the OOC is full of loseable games.
I predict:
2 losses in non-conf
15-3 MVC
Win Arch Madness
3 Seed
Sweet 16
We should be a Top 15 team throughout the year, with a good stay in the Top 10. I just can't see FVV, Baker, and Cotton losing. We're just not used to seeing it. I don't care who we lost (and we did lose a big piece). Those guys are simply winners. And combine that with other solid contributors and a stellar recruiting class, and well, don't expect too much of a drop-off.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

My recollection is that Jans did make defensive match up calls at timeouts and when substitutes were put into the game(subs for both the Shocks and their opponents) according to the scouting report and sometimes he would make match up changes (within the def. S.R.) to see whether other match ups worked better when multiple players were capable of guarding a certain player. That is why sometimes Cotton would guard the ball (opponent point guard) coming up the court pressuring the ball. Fred might then guard a taller player who wasn't as capable of scoring. Jans job was to communicate so that everyone knew who his man to guard was.
