Exactly. This new plan for the BCS looks and sounds all nice and cute that its all about football.....BUT....it's ALSO the start for "separation". I don't believe it to be simply innocent and that a bigger picture for the benefit of the BCS schools isn't the grand plan

Five-six years after this passes...we WILL hear the talk and see the proposal to eliminate non-BCS schools from the NCAA tourney. OR......like 60Shock said...the BCS schools will start their own post-season tournament to declare a National Champion.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I do believe the long term plans for the Power 5 involve having a complete monopoly on the football and basketball national championships. Except for perhaps Boise State, they have pretty much already acheived that with football. Basketball is a different story, but their recent maneuvering with wanting "autonomy" just reeks of an arms race to outspend the non-Power 5 conferences so that over time they will be unable to field nationally competitive basketball programs.

It's indicative of the rampant commercialism in our society, where the only thing that matters is money and everything else is practically irrelevant.

I don't think that there is necessarily is a conspiracy although I don't think that most of the BCS conference schools/Presidents/AD's care about the other schools at all. I don't think that they know where this is going to lead yet. The Texas AD was quoted as saying that if they begin to pay players, Texas will do fine but what about others who won't do fine so there is some intelligent thoughts coming out of some in the business.

I think that most of the schools are reacting to pressure from lawyers, media, and others who say that the NCAA/Universities are making exorbitant amounts of profit and the players are not receiving their fair share, while coaches are becoming rich and schools are spending tremendous amounts of money on facilities. Therefore schools are being greedy, and athletes are being taken advantage of (not having enough money to eat, and live) and treated like slaves. Anti-trust issues are at stake as well as others (for example, what happens to the non revenue sports, and will some of them be done away with) and the schools are wary about this.

If this talk continues, and if athletes are considered employees, the unintended consequences to the relationship of the student/athlete will be staggering in my opinion. For example, why go to class if one is an employee and playing for money, etc. etc. etc. The Championships are not the primary issue (still an issue but not primary) but it will be affected by these other issues. Hopefully, common sense takes over.

As for me, if college sports become professional sports in nature, I'll probably spend most of my time watching the Professional sports on Sunday.

I heard on the radio broadcast of "news from the Oil Patch" that Texas universities benefit to the tune of $900,000,000 annually .soon expected to be $1 billion annually, from oil revenues produced on land that they collectively own.

Okay, I'll bite -- you're a conspiracy theorist, RMS. I was in Austin not long ago and went right by the facilities of the richest of all the big bad guys, and I did NOT see a single black helicopter.

If I understand correctly - the BCS programs want to be only programs that can pay their athletes. That will cause a major separation in the Power 5 and the rest of us. They can leave the NCAA Tournament alone and still get what they want.

If five conferences are paying players and the others aren't, why wouldnt the players that developed in their first couple of years transfer to the paying conferences? Anybody who doesn't think this is a conspiracy is so naive. The consequences are all intended and it will destroy all of the non-bcs. Get ready for division II. The only way to combat this is to preempt them by leaving them first. No inter divisional play in FB or bb. When they have no little guys to get easy victories over every year they will only have each other to beat on. They also won't have the general audience any more. The non cbs should go to war over this...or be chumps forever

When (IF) they bring back football, it will be as a Div II program for several years first and work their way up to Div I. At least that is what I've heard. Will Wichita, as a community, support a losing Div II football program for several years as they work their way back up to Div I?

First of all I not expect Wichita State will be bringing back football anytime soon, if ever. If and when that might happen I don't see them going D-II. I could see them going D-III for a few years if they could get into the Pioneer League and then step up to FCS football are whatever the equivalent will be at that point in time. Bringing back football seems like a longshot. Getting to the FBS/BCS level seems like a very much longer shot.

Will Wichita support anything below FBS/BCS football? Not likely in numbers that would make a profit or even an acceptable loss.
