I'm assuming that if I cancel my Cox cable but keep my Cox internet I should still have access to ESPN 3. All it requires is a Cox login. Anybody have experience with that?
What is keeping other cable / internet providers from offering ESPN3? Is there a big cost? I am surprised that DISH is affiliated, while DirecTV (my provider) is not.
Related to Shockervision, I have subscribed for several years, the past two with slow internet. The higher resolution feed last year made my feed choppier because of the slow access speed. However, I should have a Fiber Optic feed by this season as my provider is finally moving to the fast lane. Us country folks are usually the last to get the good hard-wired technology.

I believe you are correct for ESPN3 specific games. However, I do think your TV access matters. I can watch anything online that I can watch on my own TV. Example, if Wichita State is playing a game on ESPN, and my cable subscription includes ESPN, I could still watch it online. However, I don't have ESPNU on my subscription, so I would get blacked out from watching those games online.
That wasn't true last season. I had uverse and watched many a game on espn3 via apple TV. So I know for certain att was an approved cable provider last season. I've since moved and will be able to watch games on espn3 without blackouts!
I was not clear. Yes, if a person has U-Verse, then the person has access to ESPN3.
If a person has an isp account with ATT.com or ATT.net, then the person is not qualified to access ESPN3. I know this is true because I have ATT.net and I spent a great deal of time on this issue, during the past year.
There is a work-around for non-eligible users.
"Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."
In order to watch a game that is featured in your area on ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU via ESPN3, you must have a subscription to that channel through your participating cable provider. In order to watch a game that is out of area, or exclusive to ESPN3, you have to have a subscription to ESPN via a participating cable provider.
I subscribed for the full year of SV last year before doing my research. It was a waste, but only because I found out that 1) I could watch nearly every single game on ESPN3, live and replay, and I didn't do due diligence in researching a month-to-month subscription as others have described. SV was fine but, again, as others have pointed out, no archive and thus no replay. I won't make that mistake again this year, unless, for some odd reason, I no longer have access to ESPN3.
Speaking of that, I've never had any problems accessing ESPN3 as others have described. I've been a long time DirecTV subscriber, mainly due the NFL ticket which allows me to watch my beloved Chiefs live (I live in Redskins territory) and have Comcast internet service. To date, I've never been challenged with any sort of log on or password when dialing up a game on ESPN3. The quality of the ESPN3 broadcasts is great but I particularly like the replay feature. I tried to describe the log on process to my brother who lives outside of Wellington and he could never get it to work. I later discovered it was due to the local blackout restrictions. Needless to say, he was pissed as he couldn't pick up any of the games on the local channels because the broadcast rights had switched parties. Ugh.

That is true. You must have a cable account, an internet account does not qualify.
I'm a long time subscriber to SV. I usually watch the home games on SV because when they do get the mic's turned on - I enjoy hearing the Shocker radio crew call the game. I watch the replays on ESPN3 to hear what their announcers have to say.
The lack of replays does not sit well with me. I haven't looked lately but it did say (in the fine print) that they would have archived games available.
I also will add that the SV quality got a lot better this past season.

So…no ESPN; no ESPN3.
That's not correct. This is a common misconception because many people confuse ESPN3 and WatchESPN. Most internet-only subscribers will get access to ESPN3 online, but will not get access to the vast majority of what is on WatchESPN.
Last summer they made major changes to ESPN3. ESPN3 used to include access to certain events that could also be seen on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU. That's not the case anymore. ESPN3 is now it's own "channel" that shows exclusive live events that can not be seen on any other ESPN channels. Whereas WatchESPN is a site or app that get's you access to basically any channel with ESPN in the name, assuming you subscribe to that channel.
ESPN3 is available to most internet-only subscribers including Cox and U-Verse.
From WatchESPN FAQ: Q: I subscribe to Verizon Broadband (but not Verizon FIOS), can I get full access to all the networks on WatchESPN? A: You will be able to view ESPN3 only on WatchESPN.
And from Cox: Now our valued Cox High Speed Internet customers have access to ESPN3 through your computer
And from U-Verse: ESPN3 will also be available to any residential AT&T High Speed Internet customer, across screens and devices.

I don't have ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or any other ESPN* channels and I can still watch ESPN3 online. I can't watch any of the other ESPN channels online though.
Also, if you live locally, all the espn 3 games that are on kansas 22 will be blacked out. You can watch them on archives after their completion but it's almost impossible to do that and not find out the result before hand since you usually have to go to the box score to get the link.
