    They called him Soarin’ Warren

Does Warren Armstrong take helium injections prior to Wichita State basketball games?

The astronomical heights which the Shocker All-America candidate reaches would suggest such a thing. The 6-foot-2 Warren, however, attributes much of his leaping ability to his prep days at Kansas City’s Central High School.

Loved reading the article on Terry Benton. What a dominating rebounder he was. In grade school, I was friends with his younger brother Kerry. We used to go to the games and count his rebounds. Towards the end of the game, when everyone else was sucking wind, Terry just kept workin it, and it would seem like he'd end up with 20+ rebounds.

Not at all unlikely. Terry had 5 games of between 23-29 rebounds and in 70-71 had a rebound average per game of 16.8.

That's interesting. I was in his Psychology class at East. It's been a while but I think I said right behind him.

I was also in the same P.E. class.

Interesting article today about MTXE's arrival. Smithson was hired at. $40k, double the amount that IlSU was paying him. Hartman was making slightly over $41k and Ted Owen was making $31k. $40k in 1978 is worth about $143k today.

Also didn't realize that UofL asst Olsen had accepted and then turned the job down.

Come on. You guys are putting me on. There's no way a guy with that last name is anything but either a porn actor or a urologist.

Does anyone know the story on why Olsen changed his mind on the WSU head coaching job?

I too am interested in that story. I happened to be stationed on the east coast when all of this happened and didn't know anything about it until I read this article.

I know he became Louisville's AD a year or two later and held that position for a long time.

Wonderful article today about Linwood Sexton.
Man... He seems like a heck of a man. Softens me up tremendously about ADES.
