Cle is getting cash flow. It's New York, NBA and Phil Jackson. You're not gonna draft a player with your 1st pick and not compensate him until he inks a deal. That would be terrible business practices. He's gotta eat doesn't he??? Lol :)

I hadn't thought of the tax angle, but it's certainly better from that standpoint to go to a team in Texas or Florida than to one in New York or California. Still, I suppose the endorsement potential of NY (and probably LA too) could make up for it, so let's hope Cle is a big hit with the local advertisers.

Sure, but why not buy jewelry when you ARE a big hit with local advertisers and actually have a contract and tremendous cash flow coming in? Otherwise you are being speculative on your own income potential.

Also, don't forget that the average NBA player can end up paying a "jock tax" in 20 different states per year.

Carmelo is expected to announce today that he will stay with the Knicks. That sucks for Cle.

While it sucks for playing time, the mentoring will be invaluable, for the same reason that clevelanders are hoping lebron returns

If I understood correctly, Melo could get max dollars from the Knicks, more than anywhere else?

This was never in doubt. Melo's next assist will be his first, and he was never going to take less than the max.

He's intrigued about playing with Phil Jackson and he's gonna install the Triangle offense which lets be real. Carmelo has wet dreams about that. Suits him well. The new rumors have him strongly considering Chicago as well.

+/- $70 million from Bulls over 4 years.

His wife has money and the Bulls give him a better chance to win. Honestly If I was him I would be considering the offer from Houston

Melo doesn't strike me as the mentoring type. But perhaps Cle could learn to be the Scottie Pippen.

His WIFE has money? How much has Anthony himself made since he's been in the league? Unless he's blown it, he already has more than he knows what to do with, and even if he has blown it, he's about to get another similar infusion wherever he goes. If he has half a brain (assumption, I know), there ought to be more to this than money. Tim Duncan may have less money (or not; he's been around a long time), but he has a ring for every finger.

I'm heading out to the Summer League games this evening. I won't be able to see Cle live, but I should make it out to see if Nick get some run.
Should be pretty interesting considering the recent news.
