So you guys are saying if we go 35-0 again this year, then lose in the second round (or third round. W/e they are calling it now lol) to a team like UK or Duke, who is filled with McDonalds all Americans, 3G might have some thoughts about not being able to get past such teams? Not to mention the weakness of the mvc. Don't get me wrong, nothing would please me more than 3G finishing out his career here. WSU is in a great position right now, but you're kidding yourself if you think 3G wouldn't have a better chance at winning a championship at a school like UNC, Syracuse, Duke, UK, Florida, KU, or Uconn.

I think 3G just needs to bring us a championship and sign a 20 year deal, so we know he's not going anywhere haha

Good heavens -- worry, worry, worry. I don't know which is sillier: your concern or the one from lemuel you were answering.

Does Mark Few get antsy about the lack of competition Gonzaga faces in its league? Has Bill Self jumped to the NBA because he's bored winning the big 12 every year?

Marshall has made WSU a national player. His schedule may not be all he'd like, but outside the league it's better than most and good enough that if the Shocks take care of business -- and they keep getting better players to do so all the time -- they can be in the tournament every year, and be a team people talk about as a serious contender. The Valley is poor right now, but it may be headed back in the right direction, and it any case it's pretty much irrelevant. What matters to WSU's chances these days is what WSU does -- not what the Valley does.

We were less than a foot away from beating a team full of McD's AAs and NBAers. You might have a point if we lost by 20, but being so close shows that we can get past any team,

Remember that post that came out that said who certain power schools would hire if they were to come up? When the article said North Carolina would hire Gregg, most of us here said that we would have no hard feelings and would help him pack. Yes, we know that a special program would be enticing to Gregg. My point is that it would take exactly that....a SPECIAL program to lure Gregg away. Missouri wasn't it. NC State wasn't it. Wake Forest wasn't it. Nebraska wasn't it. UCLA, in all its mystique and magic, wasn't it. Get back to me when Roy or Coach K retire or when Billy The Kid goes to the NBA....BUT NOT UNTIL ONE OF THOSE THINGS HAPPEN.

I wouldn't get hung up on Gregg needing to sign a 20-year deal either. First, it won't happen, at least not something that ridiculous. Second, contracts lengths aren't worth the paper they are written on. I think that Mark Turgeon signed a 10-year extension in 2006 (maybe 7...I can't remember....long term either way), and he left the next year. If Gregg wants to leave, he'll leave, regardless of how long his contract is.

He pretty much has a perpetual rolling multi-year contract now. That won't prevent him from leaving if he so chooses. I don't see him signing a contract that doesn't have a relatively reasonable buy-out clause that he could exercise if he wanted to move on.

What might be better is some kind of pot of gold at the end of a 10 or 12 year rainbow that he could cash in on if he remained the Wichita State coach until such target date. Now how big a pot and whether or not we could fund it remains to be seen. I'm thinking it would take a pretty good size pot.

Actually, I'm not worried at all. Just stating the possibility that other conferences might have a more competitive profile that is more attractive to him. An improved MVC, I believe, would be more attractive to him. Simple as that.

check this out: remember how wichita state went through the nit like a hot hot knife through butter? remember how lutz dug in the hate about it etc. ?

they are going to do the same thing this year or next year but ncaa title style. it's not fair that marshall gets talent like he will have next year.. finally. 'best team in the country! their style is impeccable. 'almost embarrassed for coach k, izzo, self.. almost. you all phucked over wichita state last year.. now you get it back in spades. kentucky and louisville better hope they don't see wichita state next year.. dunkathon, blowout 100%. revenge

How does being a 1 seed at a school like UNC, Syracuse, Duke, UK, Florida, KU, or UConn have a better chance of winning a national championship than being a 1 seed at WSU.

If Marshall keeps getting 1 seeds at WSU and keeps losing in the round of 32, he will be mad at himself, not wishing for a different job.

The only possible answer to your proposition is if Marshall felt like his #1 seeds weren't as good as the #1 seeds with All-Americans on them. He would also have to feel that it was WSU holding him back from getting the type of recruit that he could get elsewhere.

I just don't think that is Marshall's mindset.

The goal is to have the best team. I would venture to say that HCGM believed he had the best team in the country last year.

                        How does that get better?

I know it's only one team and they're still unproven, but have you seen Bradley's recruiting class? Yowza.

Then there's SIU. Barry is the man. Dawgs will keep getting better.

I'm optimistic about the Braves and Salukis!

                            I have, and it's a good one.
